Hi Jack, I've been following you for quite some time now. In my opinion, you are one of the greatest players out there at the moment. What set of strings do you usually use for your 335 models?

Great! I love that sound, those guitars have such a fine tone, I find you discribed it very well: the full woody heavy sound and the aery flavour… when I play my es 335, I feel as if it plays for me and I only listen to it. I wonder how industrial products likecthe es 335 can sound so great. Every instrument of the series has its own individual character.

Hi Jurgen - in addition to my '06 Gibson 335, I play a made-in-New Jersey 1997 Guild Starfire and a Korean 2000 Guild Starfire. I also recently bought a Japanese 2006 Gretsch Nashville G6120AM. And, a new Larry Carlton Sire 335, made in Indonesia ( can you tell that I'm not married? ) They are all fine guitars, very similar to the 335 body dimensions, and the Asian-made guitars are less expensive than the Gibson 335s.

Just bought a Vintage Burst Gibson CS ‘59 reissue ES335 from Sweetwater as a commitment to more focused studying the blues genre. Awesome guitar !! Thx for inspiration !!

Thanks for your input, Ran. I should probably just get a 335 knowing that it will be a different beast instead of crossing my fingers and hoping that a 339 will be right. I don't want the road to 335 heaven to be littered with 339s that didn't meet my expectations.

Hi Jeff - I have a '06 335 and a '14 339 Studio. I bought them both used. They both have Gibson '57 Classic pickups installed. I believe the 335's weight and the bigger body size give it a special tone. The 339 is indeed a smaller body size, but I think of it as a semi-hollow-body Les Paul. Update: I played my two guitars tonight A-B and they do sound a bit like each other thru the same amp. The 335 has more weight and a bigger body, plus two tone and volume controls versus the 339 Studio's smaller body and one tone and volume control, but they do have similar sounds. I like them both.

I'm probably asking the wrong person, but how much 335 is there in a 339? I find the 335 to be rather cumbersome so I'd prefer the smaller body of the 339.
