Months before Slotin had his fatal run in, Harry Daghlian was claimed by the core. Daghlian was setting up a similar criticality experiment when he dropped a tungsten brick onto the core. He picked it off the core immediately and exposed his has to a critical plutonium core for a second. The above photo is the resulting radiation burns he received just days later.
