Electric Bike V3

Hi everyone! I want to build the Electric Bike V3 by Tom Stanton but am not sure about several things. First off I want to know how to use the VESC 6 or (latest version) eg. Software, regenerative breaking, tuning etc. Especially how to let the motor keep spinning when throttle input is stopped. This problem was shown in Corridor Crews video for the V1 bike. I also would like to know wether this would apply for all other bikes made by Tom eg V1 and V2. Does the motor need any software changes/tinkering or is the VESC the only thing involved with a computer? I had a look at Benjamin Vedders videos and website but barely understood anything. Ps Im really new to this so please help:(. Final thing I know its a bit much but could you guys please help me out with the parts I need to buy for this build I know motors, VESC, throttle handle, printed parts etc. But mostly need to know what Nuts, bolts, bearings etc. Thank You

Hi Joshua, thanks for the support! Are you using a VESC4 or VESC6? You should be able to wire it into the ADC input. I used ADC2 on my VESC6 because ADC1 is used for the throttle input. Then it should be configurable in the VESC tool software. I can't remember if the VESC4 now uses the same software as the VESC6, so I'm not sure exactly how to configure it if you have the 4.

Hi Tom, a new Patron here. Do you have a video or manual on how to hook up the second thumb throttle for the regen braking to the Vesc please? Thanks !

Hi Tom, just joined Patreon, thanks for your videos and great effort to get these machines going. Can you tell me please where you give details of the drive belt used for the bike please?

Tom Stanton

I'm not entirely sure if they're neodymium magnets

does the motor have neodymium magnets?

Many Thanks

Tom Stanton

Hi Michael, I've just finished the bike today and will give it a test tomorrow. Once I know that nothing needs changing, I will upload the stl files. Thanks

Hi Tom. When you will be uploading the stl files ?

Tom Stanton

I moved the idler pulley to effectively shorten the distance between the motor and the rear wheel axle, which gave me just enough space to put the rear brake back on haha! Really great to hear that I've inspired you with this! That's what all this experimenting is about in the end, bringing new ideas to the table. Thanks!

Great to see you have reinstalled the rear brake. Stay safe and let us know how it goes! You have inspired me to give this a try, keep up the excellent work Tom.

Ok Tom! I´´ ve machined the piece of aluminium too ;) i´´ ll do some tests with printed parts with that piece at the same time. Thanks a lot Tom!

Tom Stanton

I will be uploading the stl files and more info soon! It requires some machining of an 8mm aluminium sheet for the part the motor mounts to, but the part connecting the aluminium to the frame is printed. Thanks!

Hi Tom! Awesome work! Can you upload 3d stl files and some more pictures? Thx!

Tom Stanton

Oops corrected haha! Thanks!

Pretty sure you mean W and not kW since i doubt your bike will have almost four times the power of a Buggati Chiron. The new setup looks awesome.

Love the work Tom
