🕑 Added 2017-07-03 17:05:51 +0000 UTC Well what a few days these have been.I genuinely did not expect to ever hit that goal, and here we are at it already. I thought, at best, that the new video would be bring in another hundred or two dollars worth of pledges. I thought there were a few people that didn't know about the patreon. Turns out there were a lot more than that.
I can't say thank you enough. I could spend the rest of this post saying it over and over. I have a lot of messages, I don't know if I can get to them all, but you'll be hearing thank you again if I do. This response has been overwhelming. When the pledges came flooding in my wife and I thought we were being outrageous with our new prediction of 2300 a month. We're almost a thousand over that now.
There won't be another pledge goal. At least not for a while. I'd have to think of some sort of expansion or new project I could do that justifies it. I have some ideas/dreams but those will be a ways off.
So what does hitting this goal really mean?
Well, we're going to get the ball rolling on moving out of the city and to a house far away from Toronto. It would take years of savings to afford a house in the city and we're not sure if we even want to stay here anyway. Working online means we can live pretty much anywhere as long as the internet is decent, so we have a lot of flexibility. Houses are a lot cheaper outside of the big cities.
This is going to take a while but it might happen a lot sooner than we ever expected. A lot has to happen--meetings with the bank, traveling to view some places, and then moving. We have two dogs so we'll have to sort something out with them. Same goes for moving two kids. The list goes on and you get the idea. It's looking likely to happen now though.
After that's finished I'll have an "office" for work, rather than sitting in the living with my kids stomping and throwing things like they are right now. A separate space means I can properly soundproof it for recording during the day. That also means I can start streaming and doing some social things like podcasts. Or interviews, I guess. I don't know if anyone would even want to interview with me though.
Obviously this can't happen overnight but the process to make it so will begin.
It's also possible at this level of support that I could travel to some conventions and the like. Probably with my wife and kids along for the trip. We've never gone on vacation before, and the little one will have to be a bit older for it to work, but it's something we can consider.
For now I'm into the next few videos already. Organizing this move won't take up much time until we're actually physically moving. At which point there may be a week or two where things are unstable--moving, setting up internet, etc. That's likely months away though, but it'll come with some streams and faster recording afterward.
I sound like I'm repeating myself now so that's a good sign to stop. Thank you again everyone. I hope the future content is worth it. And if you're brand new, look out for the Q&A prompt that should be out tomorrow if you're interested in taking part in that.

Hi Joe - Long time fan - and love the epic videos. I plan to support you as long as you keep generating great content. If I may - please do not start putting out podcasts - some of the other creators I enjoy on YouTube have - and they mostly are just not interesting. Your long form video essays on video games are amazing and I can't imagine a podcast being as concise or just delaying another awesome video. Thank you again for your content - you deserve this success - and I am sure your channel and supporters will only continue to grow!
Interviews with, say, script writers from certain games would be a great video idea for your channel, and I'm sure you can come up with interesting questions to ask. It will probably also mean a good way to get an interim video out in between big projects. Relatively speaking, interviews probably take a lot less work than, say, writing a full script for something new
I donated because of your honesty and time management, understand realistically how long big projects take. That felt like something that should be rewarded.

Congrats! You deserve it! Youre the first youtuber ive wanted to financially support. Your views on most games align with mine but you can articulate so much better than i ever could. I know how much time it can take to make a quality video like all yours are so you deserve to be compensated. I often listen to your videos in the background while i work, much like a podcast. It might be worth your time to upload an audio only version on your vids! Anyway im happy you and your family are doing well. Me and mine send our best from Alberta :)

As a non-native speaker, your videos are an absolute bliss to listen to because your tone and accent are so even. Your humility and your dedication to creating great videos is really terrific-- and honestly, these are the exact kinds of things YouTube needs more of. You don't pull punches and you give my hobby a veneer and level of depth in ways that I hadn't thought through before. For what it's worth-- please make a new goal. You deserve it ! Your channel has been a favorite of mine ever since the dark souls 1 critiques. Thank you for the time and work you've put into each and every video. I know how much time multiple playthroughs can take especially if you want to 100% them and I can't even begin to imagine how long writing the scripts, think about the game and editing all the gameplay takes. You're the first YouTube content creator that made me binge-watch almost 9 hours in a single day. Thank you once again for providing hours for entertainment and I hope you become even more successful than you already are.
A lot has been said already but I want to add: GET HELP! Maybe get a consulting editor first and see what else you need. Is managing your social and other media getting to be too much? I hear you complaining about how you can't answer every single message. Maybe get a part-timer to help with that too. You're worth it, don't think you have to do everything on your own just because that's how you started.

Definitely deserved! I would encourage you to look into streaming on Twitch for even more exposure/financial support! I would definitely sub for you on Twitch if you had a semi regularly schedule.

Honestly, I often enjoy your videos more than playing some of the games. You have great analysis and do so articulately and thoroughly. There's no one in the industry (gaming, YouTube, etc.) that does this. Thank you Joseph and best of luck!

You deserve it mate. I don't think I've ever spent an entire day - over 10 hours in this specific case - with the content of just one single person AND enjoyed it so much I concentrated on my monitor and later TV almost the entire time. I can't even watch two movies at that level of concentration.
