Friends-Only Post No. 7: Milking It for All It's Worth
🕑 Added 2016-07-16 06:37:29 +0000 UTC WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEK ETC.Wow. Last episode. Sass Girls X. What can we say!?
That was by a ways the most intense (ly crap) book about alien invasion, gigantism fetishes, video-game aesthetics, and Christian beliefs we've read yet. We tried hard as heck to put everything we had into the episode, but a couple tiny things just! Wouldn't! Fit! So here you go: a little behind-the-scenes insight (and despair).
Two moments that stuck with me particularly. One! We had a stunningly expensive physical copy of this book, which isn't all that common. As we were going thru the book to try to find something absolutely perfect to use as the opening line (because absolute perfection is what we strive for, always, as no doubt you've noticed and appreciated), J. at one point muttered "I wish we could just search for ... were-cow".
And we've all been there, am I right?
The other moment that stuck with me was after I recorded the opening line, J. said "whoa, that was a good read, actually". Which, yeah. It was okay.
But you didn't have to sound so surprised, man.
I kid, I kid. It was just a very funny moment.
And what a set of letters! I didn't mention this on the show, but I laughed a lot when Courtney Fakelastname, the Area Girl of song and legend, mentioned that she already "cringe[s] at her college essays". See, my college had this gimmick where they asked you to write a sealed letter to yourself as part of your admissions packet. Then they gave it back to you at graduation (assuming you made it). I had forgotten every atom of this when somebody handed me the envelope at graduation.
I laughed and tossed it in the nearest trash can unopened. Fuck that guy I'd been four years before. I ain't looking back. I've got eyes only for the future (which is where we're all going).
WHAT THE HECK?
From Reader Blue Blazer Irregular Level Eric Fakelastname comes what he called "the strangest epigraph I've ever seen" and what we call "uh, yeah ... that ... that about covers it."
Yup, that's a pair of quotes from fascinating 20th-Century thinkers Albert Camus and ... sigh ... the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
"I see that man going back down with a heavy yet measured step towards the torment of which he will never know the end. That hour, like a breathing space which returns as surely as his suffering, that is the hour of consciousness..."
-Albert Camus
"What I got you gotta get it put it in you."
-Red Hot Chili Peppers
WHAT'S COMING DOWN PIKEWISE
Recording tomorrow, and I think this book is exactlyin the middle of the IDEOTV bullseye. It's something that I've been wanting to get to for quite a while, and I think you're gonna really like the results. Feed your hamsters and grab a cool, crisp beverage, because you're going to want to block out some time for this one.
