Friends-Only Post No. 6: The Taste of Exclusivity
🕑 Added 2016-07-09 07:14:07 +0000 UTC WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEK ETC.Our second Friends-Only Episode dropped! And and and it came with A New Song!
Is it a great song? Yes.
Is it a song that caused one of the harshest and most contentious moments of this podcast partnership thus far? Also yes.
See, here's the thing. J. had this crazy idea that we should "write and record a completely original song, like always." But I, C. Collision, felt we should go another direction. A more ... classic direction. A direction involving Long Island's most notorious laser-show devotees, the band that provides two-elevenths of my black-t-shirt roster and five-elevenths of my music-listening time, Long Island's finest and the band that appeared in last week's friends-only email ... (the) Blue Őyster Cult. See, J. wanted to do an actually good song, as pictured above.
But I wanted to do a little tune based on BŐC's legendary No. 1 hit on Billboard's top Tracks, the stupdendous No. 40 hit on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, the shimmering No. 76 on the UK singles chart, "Burnin' for You". (Click on it if you love us.) I worked up lyrics and everything -- based on the unique insight* that "Burnin' for You" scans the same as ... "Content for You" -- which is EXACTLY what that kind of episode is!! It's content! FOR YOU!
GET IT!? It's AMAZING!
And that's why I've included the lyrics, below.
Anyways, as you likely know, J. carried the day, and my dream of foisting karaoke-level tunelessness and Grade-7-level comedy lyrics on you, our beloved Friends of The Show, came to naught.
*Eat me; it's not like YOU had this insight, Sparklehorse.
WHAT'S COMING DOWN PIKEWISE
Our next episode is re. Markable. We got together with the great K. Thor Jensen to discuss a book with almost no internet presence at all, despite being as pure a product of the internet as we have -- or anybody has -- ever seen. We take on a book set in a universe where invading aliens have been watching Earth since Noah built an ark to deal with a nasty period of precipitation, where those aliens are "from the first planet outside your solar system" (which is ... we GUESS how planets ... work?), where the "story" feels more or less like some little kid improvising right straight at your face for nearly 200 pages. Please anticipate it!
If you don't know who K. Thor Jensen is, you can check out his previous appearance, which is by a mile one of the funniest, weirdest episodes we've done. (And it's more than a little likely that this one will beat that one.)
CONTESTS
As we've mentioned, we've got a pair of ponderous, yeasty contests for you right now. (We also did a few Twitter contests you might want to take a look at. Why? Because we're the ONLY podcast that gives back.) Check them and see:
- Pick It For Us -- want to pick a SPECIFIC BOOK? or a WEIRD GENRE? Vote now!
- SPECIFIC BOOK
- WEIRD GENRE
- See a Sticker -- we have a few options in the ol' hopper: what do YOU want to affix to flat surfaces?
- Logo / name of show
- Obscure in-joke that makes no sense unless you heard one specific episode slash are familiar with Spinal Tap
- On-brand reference that makes total sense if you've listened to a ton of episodes
Email us, hit us up on twitter, just let us know somehow, some way!
UNTIL NEXT TIME
Be good to yourselves and each other.

CONTENT FOR YOU LYRICS
Show in the valley
Show in the city
Show isn't pretty
Ain't no show for me
Show in the darkness
Show on the highway
Show isn't my way
Show I'll never be
Joke out the day
Joke out the night
I can't see no reason
To put up a fight
I'm living for givin' the Devil his due
And I'm content, I'm content, I'm content for you
I'm content, I'm content, I'm content for you
Time is the essence
Time is the season
Time ain't no reason
Got no time to slow
Time everlasting
Time to play B-sides
Time ain't on my side
Time I'll never know
Joke out the day
Joke out the night
I'm not the one to tell you
What's wrong and what's right
I've seen suns that were freezing
And lives that were through
But I'm content, I'm content, I'm content for you
I'm content, I'm content, I'm content for you
Joke out the day
Joke out the night
I can't see no reason
To put up a fight
I'm living for givin' the Devil his due
And I'm content, I'm content, I'm content for you
I'm content, I'm content, I'm content for you
I'm content, I'm content, I'm content for you
I'm content, I'm content, I'm content for you
