City of Ashes: The Los Angeles Wildfires
🕑 Added 2025-01-11 23:52:47 +0000 UTCAlyson - a lifelong and current resident of Los Angeles - and Breht discuss the wildfires ravaging L.A.
Together they discuss the acute and structural causes of the fires, the role played by Climate Change, the reactionary propaganda surrounding the fires, the class dynamics at play, the self-serving careerist motivations of bourgeois politicans, the organized grassroots community response on the ground, and what it all means for the future of California, the US, and the world.

As a recent resident of California, when I used to think urban areas were safe from fires, those days are over. More and more cities and towns are at risk each year.

Not trying to take away from severity of episode and Alyson's proximity to it but the episodes where it's Alyson and Bret talking about current issues are really phenomenal. I like the episodes on books or historical events as well but would love to see a weekly round-up episode where Alyson and Bret give us their takes on world events for the past week or something. Great perspectives from you two!
