Like for real —- seeing him hugging his knees like that after being so bluntly rejected somehow hits harder than his earlier lonely wandering around, introspecting about whether he’s just a bad person. It’s almost like he’s not able to lie to himself anymore about how vulnerable he really is.

This is a layered dynamic. She’ll laugh at his performances with everyone else, but doesn’t want to be around him one on one. And he might seem cocky and extroverted, but he’s actually really isolated and alone.
