“Hey, mom.” Ruby smiled sadly downwards as she looked at her mother's gravestone. “Sorry I haven’t been coming for the past few days. Aunt Raven’s been ramping up our training!”
She felt the wind tickle her hair and Ruby just loved imagining her mother was the one ruffling her hair. She giggled at the feeling before tucking a strand back behind her ear.
“And yeah, Aunt Raven’s been training us by the way. You remember that, right? I could have sworn I told you that last time I was here. Yang was pissed at first, of course, but don’t worry, she got used to it! In her own words, it was a prime free ticket to punching her bio-mom straight in the face!” Ruby took on a distant look, raising her a fist and pretending as if she really was having a conversation with her mom.
A smile crept up her face, however, when a memory struck her mind.
“Aunt Raven never stays though, she just visits. Remember the first time she left? Well, technically the second time, but semantics!” Ruby laughed, shaking her head as she looked at her mom’s gravestone to continue. “Anyways, it was after she dropped us off on dad and we just got back from picking up Zwei on Beacon. Yang was pissed when she found out Raven left without even telling her. Dad just shrugged it off though, he said he expected it.”
Ruby began to grin however when she remembered what happened next.
“None of us expected her to come back the next day, however, yet there she was with a dead deer on her back! A dead deer, mom! Who even brings a dead deer to someone’s house?!”
She could still remember the shock on her dad’s and sister’s faces. Ha! Just the memory of their jaws dropping made her snicker. Not that she was any better but it was definitely a memorable time for their family.
“Heh, you should have been there, mom. Aunt Raven tried to play it cool by saying they had something extra from her tribe’s hunt but we could all tell she was embarrassed to say it.”
Aunt Raven’s blushing ears were still funny to remember, not that Ruby would tell it to the woman’s face, but it was something that was forever going to stick in her mind.
“After that, Aunt Raven just kept coming back with other animals every day. She brought a boar, a pig, some chickens, she even brought a bear once.”
Her nose curled however when she remembered what happened next.
“Weiss thought it was a crude way of doing peace offerings but Blake said it was more of an Ooga-Booga cavewoman type of wooing.”
Ruby retched in disgust at that. “Gosh, who even says wooing anymore. It’s a good thing dad shrugged it off but I think he’s slowly warming up to her.”
Raven never stayed a night yet but Ruby could already see her dad getting more casual with her arrival every time she came back. It was like he expected it to happen every day now as a part of their routine. She dreaded the day Raven actually stayed a night and Ruby had to shake the image out of her head as she shuddered.
“Right, you remember Weiss and Blake?” Ruby asked, changing the subject into something much more enjoyable than her father’s potential love life. “They’re a part of my team and together with Yang, we make up Team RWBY! Pretty cool, huh? And before you ask, yes, that did cause a lot of confusion at first.”
She laughed, remembering people’s first reaction when they heard her name was Ruby while being the leader of Team RWBY. She shook her head however, preferring to continue her story as she talked to her mother.
“Anyways, you have probably already heard me talking about this before but Weiss and Blake have been staying with us these past months! I mean it is a tight fit in the house and all but we’ve managed to cram ourselves into our room that it’s practically just like an extended sleepover!”
Yet even as she smiled at her and her team’s shenanigans, a pout crept up Ruby’s face as she remembered her teammates…..quirks.
“I just wish they weren’t weird sometimes. They keep sticking to their Scrolls before going to sleep and squirming in their beds!”
There have been many times that Ruby had caught Weiss and Blake in…..weird situations. Heck! Ruby even saw Yang huddle with them one night that was just frankly disturbing!
And it was all because of one person.
Jaune Arc.
“I don’t know how, I don’t why, but I’m sure it’s Jaune’s fault!” Ruby shouted vindictively, pumping her fists in mock rage before shaking her head as “You haven’t met him yet, mom, but he’s such a doofus! I mean he introduced himself as ‘Jaune Arc, short, sweet, rolls off the tongue, the ladies love it!’. How could a guy that says something like that be such a manslut as well?!”
Her eyes widened however when she realized what she just said and who she said it to.
“I mean nothing against sluts since Aunt Raven says you were-eep!” She squeaked as she covered her mouth in mortification. “I-I’ll just shut up now.”
Ruby blushed furiously and she could just imagine her mom laughing at her awkwardly herself. That thought however helped a lot in squashing her embarrassment as her lips lifted up into a smile shyly.
“I still love you, mom. I’ve got nothing against you doing those kinds of stuff. Dad told me that it was something that could sometimes happen to mixed teams.” Ruby nodded but a frown began to replace her smile as she thought about something. “But that’s for mixed teams! Jaune isn’t even part of our team and he’s already sleeping with Weiss and Blake! He’s making everyone so weird! Dad even told me and Yang to be careful because he might be aiming for the whole team!”
She laughed nervously, bowing her head as she felt the heat creeping up her cheeks.
“Which is silly, you know?! Jaune’s just my best friend!” Ruby bit her lip nervously even as a fond smile tried to break out of her face. “He’s my first friend in Beacon actually. He’s blonde, has blue eyes, he might have been a bit clumsy at first but he’s getting there! And oh! He’s also a team leader like me! Together, we lead Team RWBY and Team JNPR!”
Ruby felt the excitement coursing through her veins and she pumped her fists at the mention of their two teams two together.
“Gods, you should have seen us in action, mom! We fought terrorists at the docks! Defeated a giant robot in the middle of Vale! And…And, we had a fight inside a train coming from Mountain Glenn but that was more Team RWBY’s thing.”
Ruby winced as she remembered how messy that fight was, Yang getting injured, Vale being breached, and a lot of people dying. She shook her head however, preferring to focus on the positive side of things while she was here with her mother.
“That’s when Aunt Raven picked Yang and me up, actually. Took us right to her bandit camp in Mistral just as the train hit Vale before dropping us back to dad. And well, you know the rest.” Ruby smiled as she went back full circle but she didn’t want to stop just yet! She still had a lot of things she wanted to talk about with her mom!
“As for Weiss and Blake? Jaune and Pyrrha had to come and save them while the rest of their team fought to protect Vale. Heh, Jaune got the title of Hero of Vale then actually after he led the charge to push the Grimm out of the city. But don’t worry though! I’ll catch up with him and become a hero and badass Huntress in no time! After all, I am your daughter!” She finished excitedly, a proud grin coming onto her face as she pumped her fist.
Yet as her declaration rang out the cliff, all that she heard in reply was the whistling of the wind around her. She couldn’t help but feel lonely at that and her excited grin died down into a forlorn smile.
“Thanks for listening to me, mom. I guess the point I want to say is that you don’t have to worry about me anymore. I made new friends, had some awesome adventures, and…..and I’ll keep on making you proud, mom.”
Rub smiled, closing her eyes as she waited and waited and waited. Hoping for that one imaginary second that her mother would call out to her and say:
‘I’m already proud of you, Ru-’
“-by!”
She jolted, her eyes snapping open as she heard her name be called. For one single second she really thought she was going crazy and her mom really was calling out to her from across the grave but as she strained her ears however….
“Ruby!”
Yup, she was not going crazy. She turned with a wry smile that suddenly turned into a laugh.
“DAD!”
Behind her, Taiyang Xiao Long stood with Zwei beside his feet. Without a second thought, Ruby zoomed towards them. She collided with her father in a fierce hug and they both laughed as Zwei barked happily beside them. Her father raised her up, carrying her as if she was a baby once again before walking back to her mother’s gravestone.
“Hey, Sum-Sums, I see our daughter has been keeping you company again. I hope she didn’t bother you too much.” Her father greeted with a smile on his face as Ruby giggled before zooming out of his grasp.
Rose petals flew around them as Ruby materialized to give her father a playful punch on the side.
“Shut up, I wasn’t bothering mom. We were just finishing up here.” She poked her tongue out with a giggle before tilting her head in confusion. “I thought you had something to do in Signal? You left even earlier than Aunt Raven.”
Her father only laughed at her antics, ruffling her hair as she looked forlornly at her mother’s gravestone.
“Don’t worry about it. I just had to tell the squirts not to make fools of themselves when visiting Vale for the Vytal Festival.”
Ruby gasped at her father’s answer and she immediately moved to hug his arm.
“Does this mean you get to take us to Beacon?!”
“Yup!” Her father grinned, popping the p just the way their family liked it before a pout rose to his lips. “But does your team really have to go now? The tournament is still a week away. Can’t you go then?”
“Nope!” She replied with a smile, as much as she wanted to enjoy her father’s company, Ruby was still much more excited to go back to Beacon.
What? She was a teenager after all! Besides, there was a reason why they had to go back to Beacon.
“Headmistress Goodwitch says that we have to go back early to make sure we are all prepared.”
“That does sound like Glynda.” Her father grumbled, crossing his arms and casually raising Ruby in the process. “As eccentric as he is, I think I liked Ozpin’s style better, at least he wasn’t this strict.”
“Where is Headmaster Ozpin by the way? It’s been months since he resigned but I would’ve thought someone would have seen him by now. I mean, it’s the Vytal Festival and everyone goes to the Vytal Festival.” Ruby asked but as curious as she was where the former headmaster went, she had an ulterior motive.
She wanted to ask him about what Aunt Raven said. Immortal wizards, Grimm queens, Maidens, and relics were just a few interesting topics but what she was aiming for however were silver eyes.
Was it the reason why he accepted her into Beacon early? Most likely but if so, then he should be telling her how to use her super cool silver eyes so she could be just like her mother.
“Don’t know. If I were him, I would probably hide from the public as well. You don’t get to come back socially after being used as the council’s scapegoat for the Breach.” Ruby watched as her father shrugged casually, she didn’t really expect an answer but his next words just made her pout harder. “But if I know him, he’ll just pop out when he wants.”
That’s it? They just wait until he pops out when he wants to? It wasn’t the answer she wanted but it seems it was the answer she was going to get.
Ruby sighed resignedly, well, it’s not like she was going to die if she didn’t find Headmaster Ozpin soon. She could just train on her own by trying out the moves her mother did from the stories about her.
That’s right. She didn’t need Headmaster Ozpin, if he didn’t want to show himself then he didn’t want to show himself.
After all, like her father said, he could just pop out whenever he wants.

Oscar gasped and his eyes immediately snapped open as a naked white-haired man popped into his mind.
He shook his head immediately, finding himself leaning over his bedroom desk as the image disintegrated in his mind.
He shivered, he liked it better when he dreamed of the naked brown woman. At least then, he could blame his hormones! He was a teenager, gods damn it! He was a healthy young man in the prime of his life! Dreaming about naked women was normal no matter how confusing it was!
But when he dreams of a naked old man? Well, there was just no explaining just why would Oscar dream of naked old men other than that he was sick in the head.
He heard the door to his room whine and Oscar looked to see his aunt peeking in at him.
“Oscar? Are you okay?” She frowned and Oscar could only smile at her nervously.
“Y-Yeah, I’m okay. What is it?”
“I’ve been calling for you. When you didn’t answer, I took a peek to see you napping on your chair. You don’t do that so I thought you were sick from overworking yourself.”
Oscar watched as his aunt came in with a blanket, a washbasin, and an extra towel.
His eyes widened and he immediately shook his head frantically. “N-No! I’m not sick! Why would you think that?”
He stood up straight, the chair scraping the wooden floor as it slid back while he flexed and posed awkwardly. “See? I’m strong as an ox, you know?”
His aunt only laid the things she was carrying on the desk and peered at him with pursed lips. Sadly, he already knew what she was going to say.
“Maybe you should take a break from the farm? A young man like you shouldn’t have to work so hard. You should be having fun and playing with your friends.”
Oscar groaned, considering the fact that he had no friends on account of being the only boy his age working, Oscar also did not want to leave his aunt alone.
“Aunt Mari, don’t worry about me, okay? Besides, who says I’m not having fun here with you?” He grinned winningly and he watched as his aunt laughed and shook her head indulgently at him.
“Oh, you really are a charmer, aren’t you? Your mother would be proud of you.”
He stopped the wince he was about to have from ruining the mood. Oscar did not want to talk about his mother because one, he never really knew her, and two, he killed her when he was born. At least, that’s what his father used to say before he finally left the farm when Oscar was just six.
“Thanks, Auntie.”
It was all he could say as he looked at his aunt’s eyes but something must have shown on his face for her smile to dim considerably.
“Oh, Oscar.” She sighed and Oscar immediately closed his eyes as she cupped his cheek. Instead of pushing the subject however, she only smiled sadly at him. “Now why don’t you come down with me and have some snacks. We could listen to the Vytal Festival in the meanwhile while you take some rest.”
Oscar opened his eyes and smiled thankfully at that. “Alright, Auntie. Let me just change my clothes and I’ll be there in a second.”
“Don’t take too long now. Just because I’m an old woman doesn’t mean I don’t know what you teenagers can get up to alone in your room.” She drawled, raising an eyebrow at him and causing him to blushed as he looked away in mortification.
“Auntie! Why would you say that?!”
“Maybe because you keep whispering a woman’s name when you nap?” Aunt Mari teased and all he could do was cover his face even as she continued. “Now when are you going to introduce me to this Amber? She must be something if she could make you whisper her name in your dreams.”
“Oh, she’s something alright.” He whispered quietly.
Something in his dreams, at least. How was he going to explain that he dreamed up a wonderful, bodacious, older woman complete with a name and all?
At worst, his aunt would think him crazy, at best, a pervert……or was it the other way around?
Regardless, all Oscar could do was remain silent as his aunt laughed.
“Come now, Oscar. Being smitten with a woman is nothing to be ashamed of, as long as you act responsibly, of course. Wouldn’t want to be a father at 15, would you?”
“Aunt Mari!” He screeched, blushing up a storm as he stared at her in mortification.
Aunt Mari only shrugged casually however, uncaring of his embarrassment as she brought out house clothes for him to change to.
“What? The world is a different place now compared to when I was young. Back then, you wouldn’t find an unmarried woman hanging publicly off of a man’s arm. You kids nowadays seem to suddenly want to sleep with each other and next thing I know, bam! You suddenly have three women hanging off your arms!”
“Jaune Arc. You think I’m going to do a Jaune Arc.” He replied with a straight face even as the name sent a confusing twinge through his heart.
“I don’t know.” Aunt Mari shrugged before looking at him with a raised eyebrow. “But did you also know someone could do what Jaune Arc did?”
“No.” He pouted petulantly.
“That answers that. As long as you don’t give em a heart attack like what Jaune Arc is undoubtedly doing to his parents then I am good.”
There was something about that name that always got Oscar up on a twist. Maybe it was because of what he did or maybe it was something else, he didn’t know. What he did know was that everyone knew Jaune Arc.
He was the Hero of Vale who single handedly led the charge to push out the Grimm during The Breach.
He was the man who had Pyrrha Nikos, Blake Belladonna, and Weiss Schnee hanging off of him. Those were the Darling of Mistral, the Princess of Menagerie, and the Heiress of the SDC respectively.
Women loved him and men seemed like they wanted to be him if they didn’t want to kill him.
Yet even as the media portrayed him as this brave, charismatic, strong man, a part of Oscar told him differently.
Jaune Arc was just a normal, young, seventeen year old kid who cared about his friends and was just trying to do his best.
He didn’t know where that thought came from or why he suddenly had feelings of thankfulness for the man, but he knew that, he felt that.
Which again only added another question to Oscar’s already growing number of questions.
Who was Jaune Arc?

Weiss huffed with a blush, crossing her arms as she silently walked past Blake to sit at her bed. "Come here, we might as well do it on a bed that's clean."
"Damn, she just called us unclean." Yang whistled, elbowing Blake goodnaturedly even as her partner laughed while fishing her Scroll out.
"Don't mind her, she's just excited for the goods."
"Just hurry up, will you? We only have so much time before Ruby comes barging in." Weiss scowled embarrassedly, patting the space beside for Blake to seat on.
"Not really helping your case there, Ice Queen." Yang needled teasingly, sitting beside Blake and putting her partner between them.
"And you're helping yours? You haven't even experienced it yet but here you are watching with us. I reckon you're just as excited as I am."
Yang had no rebuttal to that, after all, they were going to look at some very good goods.

"Don't worry about it, Rubes." Yang sighed embarrassedly, fanning herself with her hand to will the blush away from her face. She could see however that Ruby was suspicious and a suspicious Ruby was never good. Luckily for them, she had the perfect diversion. "It's just smut."
Ruby's eyes widened and she immediately turned towards her partner who still had her hand outstretched towards Blake's direction.
"Smut? Weiss reads smut now?!"
Weiss' eyes immediately snapped towards Yang but her mouth only opened and closed in resigned frustration as she looked back at Ruby with a blush on her face.
"....Yes."
Ruby's jaw dropped before a disturbed look crawled up her face. She only stayed silent however, causing Weiss to squirm uncomfortably even as Yang snorted.
"What? Don't look at me like that! I'm a growing lady! I have needs!"
"Oh, you have needs alright." Yang laughed, causing Weiss snap towards her even as Ruby curled her nose in disgust.
"Filth."
That was the straw that broke the camel's back as Weiss fell to her knees and suddenly covered her face in embarrassment.
"No......Don't look at me!"
Yang only shook her head at that, looking away even as Ruby frowned piteously at her frowned.
"Filth, indeed." Yang whispered, her finger ghosting the middle of her thighs to wipe the hot, sticky, wetness away from there.
