Is the resolution of my VR videos too low?
🕑 Added 2022-10-19 22:55:40 +0000 UTCI've been rendering my videos in 3840x1920 and for my old HTC Vive that's enough, but technology has moved on significantly and some modern headsets have literally double the resolution.
I looked at Steam Hardware Survey and here's the distribution of the most significant resolutions among headsets on Steam:
Below 2160x1200 - 0.15%
2160x1200 - 13.6% (original HTC Vive and Original Oculus Rift)
2560x1440 - 14.2% (Oculus Rift S)
2880x1600 - 27.6% (Valve Index, Oculus Quest, Windows MR)
3840x1832 - 41.4% (Oculus Quest 2)
Above 3840x1832 - 1.7%
In other words 85% of headsets on Steam are higher resolution than my Vive. So there's a good chance that the majority of you have higher resolutions than me so I'm gonna need you to tell me whether I need to start rendering at higher resolutions. I encourage comments here cause the poll isn't very informative. Comment with your headset and how my videos stack up in it.
