Termac

New headcanon: Her ice can pierce steel armor because the ice is really just a medium for the ice magic, and Cornelia is magically very powerful.

Yeah. That's fine. It's just a suggestion, and it's not up to me to choose to incorporate suggestions into the story. I only mentioned it because I was reading a story I love, and then all of a sudden I was wondering whether the author knows that ice floats. It's a dumb thing to wonder, because I figure most everyone in a first world country that isn't part of the tropics has learned that by the time they're 3 years old. But regardless, that thought was what was in my head after I read that line... instead of what should have been: the part of the story that was in the next sentence.

It doesn’t really matter because it is MAGIC and the same principles in physics don’t apply. Just like other authors minds work in mysterious ways so does magic heh.

Illiterate Scholar

Yeah, I can suspend belief for magical ice spikes piercing steel armor because I can assume that anything under magical control is being reinforced and made to move by the magic, but she broke it up and discarded it. If the scene had made it somehow clear to the audience that she "pushed it away" and that she chose down to be that direction, I wouldn't have brought it up (although, I would have had a nagging thought about why it didn't just float right back up when she finally let go of it). @Saileri: Another thought.-- you could just have her shatter the ice into such tiny bits that it nearly instantly melts away...

Illiterate Scholar

Well, I can give you the lower freezing point one being too much licencing for the scene, and I can understand wanting to make her ice somehow magically denser, but having it sink and Al not at least notice it mentally breaks the suspension of belief for me. You could do something as simple as adding a line like "...the chunks of ice crumbled and sunk around her. Al watched them sink and decided he would have to ask her about that at some point -- maybe it was denser and that was why her ice seemed as strong as steel." That way you slip it in, and combine it with your 'ice steel' comment later in the scene. ED: "Licensing" was my phone knowing better than I what I meant... should have been "information" (I think?)

Saileri

As for ice, yeah, I intended it to be like a stone or similar stuff. As for all the technicalities, I don't think it would fit the scene/moment well, slightly disturbing it possibly. The knowledge about freezing points is quite specific. Some could also say that he knows way too much random stuff.

I know ice I floats, but is her magical ice the I variant or one of the others - some of which don't float? Then again explaining complex chemistry might be too much for the story.

Ralph

Maybe magic ice goes where she sends it. In our world ice floats, maybe it’s different in that world

Illiterate Scholar

I've noticed a few issues with your descriptions of Cornelia's use of ice magic underwater: 1 - Ice floats, so when she shatters her spiked ice barrier, it should float to the surface, rather than sink around her. 2 - The freezing point of salt water is significantly lower than fresh water, so before she starts using her cold blooded skill, while they are experimenting, you should have Cornelia mention that it takes slightly more mana or concentration, or that it gives her slightly more 'resistance' to being frozen like you did when you mentioned the higher resistance to movement for her projectiles. You can still say that it is easier on the whole, because of their access to all the water around them. Taking care of those two issues would definitely help extend the believability of the scene for us nerds in the audience. Finally, while there are still a few grammar issues that your editor should be able to sort out, there is one spelling mistake that won't be caught by spell check... You referred to the frozen cave as an "Ice ring" when it should be a "rink". Thanks for the new chapter! :)
