Turns out it can still be played today, with just a few preliminary operations to roll back the game to the last version before the publisher decided they were selling too many additional copies to VR lovers ;-)

Gamers owning their games or any rights to them is actually increasingly in jeopardy :( It is not cool at all. We should be able to own and mod games we buy freely. Multiplayer/online of course is different because of competition and cheating. You should be able to do what you want with your personal copy of a single player game though.

If you are referring to the games that were taken down, read my reply to your other comment. If you mean that the mod only works with certain games, then that is pretty much how mods work in general.
