In the late era of the Previous Era, did that Mei—who laid out numerous salvation plans—still possess any rational romanticism?
That might be a question with no concrete answer.
After all, Mei did seem a bit too rational in those final days, didn’t she?
Of course, knowing Kevin's personality, he likely wouldn’t dwell on this kind of thing.
Or perhaps more accurately, in his eyes, Mei had always been that sentimental girl with peculiar interests.
Just like in his memory from Chapter 17, when he recalled sitting with Mei on a bench under the stars—it could even be considered a date?
But Mei would then say things like, “Every star in the sky could be an enemy,” and, “What significance can one person have in the vast universe?”
From stargazing to discussing the universe and humanity.
Leaving Kevin utterly dumbfounded.
Yet seeing Kevin trying so hard to understand despite clearly being completely lost, Mei couldn’t help but chuckle and comment that his expression was “very amusing.”
And just like that, the atmosphere softened.
See…
That’s the Mei Kevin remembers.
So vivid, isn’t she?
At least, completely different from the usual portrayal in the story—the absolutely rational mastermind of the Stigma Plan.
Hmm…
If that’s not enough for you—
Then, next…
The game screen returns to normal and switches to free-control mode.
Players discover they are now in a dim and lightless world.
In Honkai Impact 3, this scene reuses the “Elysian Realm” model—it’s understandable since creating entirely new assets for a short scene isn’t exactly cost-effective.
But this world is… different.
Cost-effective? Economical? Hokuto says she doesn’t need to consider that (lol).
As long as everyone’s happy.
So, she went ahead and made an entirely new set of models.
Although players were actually more focused on something else rather than the modeling…
They could control Kevin now.
【Kevin can run now! I remember he used to just walk in Elysian Realm.】
【The Ancestor finally tamed his legs—congrats, congrats.】
【Whoa! A playable male character!?】
【A male character joining the bridge? Doesn’t seem likely.】
【Why not just implement Dr. MEI as playable? Like everyone joked before—her combat style could be summoning the Ancestor to AAA, best of both worlds.】
Logically, players had already controlled Kevin in Elysian Realm, so this shouldn’t be so surprising.
But his control this time felt much smoother than before, so…
The excitement was understandable.
Still, they celebrated too early.
Because… Kevin could fight later too!
……
Back on track.
Elysia had Kevin move back and forth a few times, enjoying the smooth controls.
In her livestream, she sighed slightly: “Mr. ‘Otto’ is really taking care of our gameplay experience again.”
Then she finally prepared to advance the story.
Following the quest guide, she soon spotted a man and a little girl in the distance.
Curious, she controlled the character to approach.
Clicked [View Memory].
It was a memory of Mei’s childhood.
Kevin, for some reason, was revisiting these moments—memories he had “cherished.”
In the memory—
Young Mei and her father were “discussing” a rather peculiar and chilling topic at first glance: “Why do humans have life?”
Upon hearing his daughter ask such a question, Mei’s father soberly reminded her:
“Mei, don’t say things like this outside.”
“Why?”
“No one likes hearing these kinds of questions. If someone talks like that in public, people will wonder if they need a psychiatrist… or if they’ve taken something strange…”
【Took the wrong medicine—that’s too real.】
【I think Mei’s dad exaggerated a bit. Didn’t we all have a phase of wild imagination as kids? The only difference is that Dr. MEI pursued hers into adulthood, while the rest of us forgot.】
【Hmph, it’s not like she was talking about swapping out the human brain without affecting personality—what’s the big deal?】
【???? I think I just saw a terrifying comment… Maybe I imagined it.】
Although young Mei was clearly “unusual,” some in the livestream didn’t find anything off.
Their reaction was more like: “That’s it? What’s the big deal?”
Maybe, for some people—
What terrifies others might be utterly trivial to them.
For example—
Hokuto once “happened” to pass by Mobius’s lab and overheard this:
【Dr. Mobius! You look awful—do you need an ambulance?!】
【I know! It’s just a little toxin! I almost have the antidote ready! Stop yelling!】
Then again, on another “accidental” passing, he heard this instead:
【Dr. Mobius! I’ve been poisoned! Quick, call an ambulance!】
【I know! Here, have a tranquilizer. Stop yelling!】
See…
Mobius always stayed calm, didn’t she?
Even if she never needed tranquilizers herself, she’d administer them to others.
……
Ahem, back to the story.
After watching Mei’s childhood memory,
Elysia continued exploring the dark world.
After turning a few corners—
She saw several people who shouldn’t be there: Mei, Su, and another Kevin.
They were talking animatedly, yet completely ignored Kevin’s approach.
Clearly, these were just memory projections.
Voices rang out:
“Imagine a possibility.” Mei crossed her arms. “For a spacetime vaster than the universe, your consciousness, your life itself may have appeared countless times—only you’ll never realize it.”
【……???】
【Uh oh, my head itches—am I growing a brain?】
Before Su could respond, Kevin actually answered first:
“If even I can’t perceive it… then whether this hypothesis is true or not makes no difference.”
Wearing that signature Kaslana smile and radiating sunny, thoughtful energy, Kevin mused aloud.
Seeing this surprised the livestream viewers:
【Used to the ice-face version—this cheerful Kevin is weird, lol】
【Whoa—Kevin before he turned into an ice cube! Look at those teeth!】
【Kevin’s model can make a bright expression? That’s unexpected.】
【Kevin, don’t do this—you’re scaring me.】
Kevin used to be really sunny.
Maybe it’s because he still had his “external brains” around?
Not like now… where he’s all alone.
Even if it cost him some brainpower—
Does it matter?
At least he was normal enough to grasp the discussion between Mei and Su—
About wanting to find a “witness” to verify if the universe truly undergoes reincarnation, and to uncover new truths.
With his limited ability (he’s just the strongest fusion warrior of the Previous Era with no research skills),
Kevin just scratched his head and quietly listened to Mei and Su’s long exchange.
“For now, I still lack the most crucial ‘witness.’”
“But… Mei, does such a witness really exist?” Su sounded worried. “Even if there is some cyclical phenomenon in the universe, wouldn’t the process itself erase all unknown histories?”
Mei replied: “That depends on whether the truths that govern this universe from the outside might leak traces inside.”
“After all, if the universe itself can’t form a closed causal loop—
Then, given time, any observation system is bound to detect its flaws.”
That sounded complex.
But in simple terms…
It’s like playing Honkai Impact 3.
If the game had zero bugs—
Players would rarely think about the system and just focus on the story.
But if a bug appears—
They’d start questioning… maybe even try to exploit it.
Mei wanted to find such a “bug” in reality.
And then… exploit the bug.
……
【***** (lengthy explanation)】
【Yeah, you can understand it like that.】
As the bullet comments floated by,
Elysia stopped reading them, blinked, and pondered aloud:
“Doesn’t this sound kind of like the ‘Hengsha Project’?”
“Oh? You actually understood that?” Mei-san asked, a little surprised.
“Huh?”
“Well… with so many viewers analyzing it together… I can’t be like someone who, even after fifty thousand years, still doesn’t get it.”
“……”
Elysia didn’t know which part to retort to first.
She was stunned.
Some players, on the other hand, got more excited and hurried to advance the story.
They moved forward.
Still the same dark world—
But suddenly, ahead appeared a brilliant flash of pink.
They paused, then realized…
Could it be…?
They immediately ran toward the color.
Sure enough, it was Elysia.
They had thought she’d never appear in the main story again.
Thank the writers.jpg
Let’s hope they keep feeling that way (lol).
Anyway, the players happily entered the memory.
The scene unfolded.
“So? The results check out, right? Just like I said—Elysia is a genuine Herrscher.”
“…Yeah.”
Mei had to admit the result. “Funny thing is, I once calculated the probability of a Herrscher like you appearing—
It requires writing 30 to 35 zeros after the decimal point.”
【That’s about the same as pulling gold 30 times in a row in Honkai Impact 3】
【Elysia’s beauty costs as much life expectancy as 30 golds (doge)】
【How are you guys even comparing this?】
“Really? But I always felt I was just ordinary,”
Elysia replied with a faint hint of humblebrag.
Although… maybe it wasn’t even humblebrag.
Because to her—
Being treated like a regular human meant more.
At most—
Just a tiny bit cuter, prettier, and smarter than normal, like a dazzling flower girl.
Back to the point.
Mei, hearing that from Miss Pink Elf (who even charmed Mobius), showed a subtle reaction.
“To you, subjectively, that might be true,”
“But due to spontaneous symmetry breaking, you escaped the constraint called ‘Finality.’”
Hard to understand?
Forget it—just listen to the second half.
Basically: She dodged the script.
Mei added a weird analogy:
“It’s like someone boiled a cup of coffee using an ice cube, ignoring thermodynamic laws.”
【Maybe there really is ice that can burn people in this universe?】
【↑ Isn’t that Kevin (doge)】
【Are you looking for Kevin wielding the Judgment of Shamash?】
