“You actually sold David off!”
In the Gathering Hall canteen, Kazuma shouted at Kairo Retsu in disbelief.
“You conniving eel freak! I can’t believe you really did it! You sold out our companion to go work for someone else!”
“Heartless! Scumbag! Devil!”
Kazuma incited the others, yelling, “Down with the corrupt Guildmaster! Save the innocent new Hunter!”
“You mother—Kazuma! Always going against me! I’ll kill you and bury you behind the mountain as fertilizer today!!”
Kairo launched himself at Kazuma like a flying crow, the two of them wrestling on the floor, enhanced strength from being Hunters evident in every scuffle.
Meanwhile, David walked into the canteen with a dazed look.
“……”
Expression vacant, David slumped into a seat.
Even when an Felyne served him a hearty meal, he just sat there spacing out.
Kairo and Kazuma paused their neck-grabbing match and looked toward him.
“Tsk tsk, he’s gone,” Kairo raised an eyebrow.
“He’s fallen hard.”
“Reeks of normie energy! Damn it… and I worked so hard too!”
Kazuma looked like he was about to cry.
“That feeling of getting beat to the punch! Ughhhhh…”
“David, how are things going on your end?”
Naofumi Iwatani walked over and asked with concern.
“Can you handle it?”
“I… I’m good!”
David suddenly snapped out of it and clenched his fist.
“I’m fine! Just leave it to me over here!”
“No worries, you go handle whatever it is you want to do.”
Kairo gave a rare display of maturity.
“Take care of your own stuff. As for the hunt, don’t worry about it.”
He let go of Kazuma and patted his chest.
“Leave the Kirin to us. You just focus on what matters.”
“Thanks… Guildmaster.”
David hung his head.
“This is my world’s mission, and yet you’re the one worrying about it…”
“There’ll be plenty for you to do later.” Kairo said.
“Just hope our Night City target’s taken the bait by now…”
“Yorinobu Arasaka, huh? And that old geezer Saburo too…”
“After all that’s happened in Night City, it should be about time, right?”
In a wide, spacious room…
“The results?”
An aged man sat in his chair, calmly addressing the researchers before him.
“Lord Saburo, the components of this drug… don’t match its actual effects at all.”
The researcher bowed his head nervously before the old man.
That elderly figure—was none other than the absolute ruler of Arasaka Corporation.
Even past 150 years old, he still held total control over the megacorp.
A true monster—Saburo Arasaka.
Despite his frail appearance, the oppressive aura he emitted made the researchers tremble with fear.
What they were currently researching… was a mysterious drug.
The drugs had been procured through illicit channels from Night City.
But their effects had far surpassed the researchers’ expectations—so much so that even Saburo himself had taken an interest.
Saburo raised his eyes toward a floating hologram in the room.
It displayed a lab tech performing an experiment on a white mouse.
In the footage, the researcher sliced off the majority of the mouse’s body with a blade from their cyberarm.
Only the head and front paws remained as the mouse squirmed, bleeding out—on the verge of death.
At that moment, a single drop of green liquid was dripped into the mouse’s mouth.
And then—
The mutilated body began to regenerate rapidly.
Flesh regrew in defiance of biology, reforming a complete lower half from the tiny stump.
The dying mouse was brought back from the brink.
“I want results,” Saburo said in a level voice—calm but terrifying.
“We’ve done comparative analysis on the subject’s condition before and after the trial,” the researcher reported.
“The subject showed full recovery. The drug restored it completely and, furthermore…”
The researcher hesitated.
“Some test subjects even showed signs of improvement—including telomere regeneration…”
“You’re saying the drug reverses aging?”
“C-Can’t say definitively!” the researcher stammered.
“We’ve broken down the drug completely. But when we synthesized it—the result had none of the original’s effects.”
“There’s definitely something else we haven’t identified… but—” the man bowed lower, terrified of retribution.
“Night City… there have been whispers about new military-grade tech recently,” Saburo muttered, eyes gleaming.
“How many people know about this drug?”
“Lord Yorinobu departed for Night City this morning,” another assistant reported.
“Also… a new gang with significant influence seems to have emerged there. The drug may have originated from them.”
“Any intel on their background?”
“None… absolutely nothing.”
The secretary bowed his head lower.
“This group and the drug both appeared out of nowhere. No previous records. We’re still trying to track them down.”
“……”
Saburo remained silent for a moment.
Yorinobu had likely gone to Night City because of this mysterious drug…
Looks like he himself would need to make the trip as well.
“Continue monitoring the military tech situation.”
Saburo gave orders in his chilling tone.
“Clear my schedule. I’m going to Night City… And have Adam Smasher ready.”
“Yes, Lord Saburo!”
“That decrepit old bastard Saburo!”
On a high-speed AV en route to Night City, Yorinobu Arasaka clenched a vial of healing medicine and slammed his fist into the armrest.
“Still chasing his goddamn dream of immortality… even at a time like this!”
