Right now, if he used Kotoamatsukami and there happened to be some contingency planted in Sasuke by “Uchiha Madara,” it was very likely the jutsu would fail.
And unless absolutely necessary, Itachi did not want to use Kotoamatsukami to control his own younger brother.
Even though he constantly called him “foolish little brother,” Itachi still deeply loved him.
It was just that the gravity of that love was so intense and twisted, it was suffocating—like a black hole, unbearable to a normal person.
And so, their fierce battle began.
The pacing was finally aligning with the “original story,” except that during the clash, Itachi kept trying to persuade Sasuke, saying things like:
“Even now, I don’t expect forgiveness… but Sasuke, that Uchiha is not to be trusted. He is extremely dangerous and despicable. Everything he does is only to use you, to turn you into his tool.”
In fact, his goal wasn’t to make Sasuke trust him immediately, but to leave a thorn in Sasuke’s mind—one that would make him wary of “Uchiha Madara.”
Sasuke’s attitude, however, was the equivalent of “not listening, not listening, turtle chanting scripture”—pure “can’t be bothered.”
After all, Sasuke knew the Uchiha he spoke of and the Uchiha Itachi spoke of were not the same person. And seeing Itachi anxious and straining himself due to this misunderstanding—yet so powerless—brought Sasuke genuine pleasure.
He couldn’t help it. Whenever he thought of how this man self-righteously executed the Uchiha clan massacre alongside Shimura Danzo, shouldered everything as if it were some noble burden, lied to him, and repeatedly tortured his mind with the Mangekyo’s Tsukuyomi, he felt the urge to bare a vicious grin.
If he had never met Uchiha Kei, never seen the possibility of another world, never been forced to absorb new knowledge during his time as Batman, perhaps he would have been pained, saddened, and enraged by Itachi’s actions—and then lost in doubt over whether to seek revenge.
Such was the way of the Clan of Love.
Especially the Clan of Love lacking in knowledge and vision.
But precisely because of Uchiha Kei’s influence, Sasuke found Itachi unforgivable.
Especially after learning that the Third Hokage had indeed been working hard to find another way to resolve the conflict between the Uchiha and the Hidden Leaf Village, Sasuke could no longer tolerate Itachi’s self-importance.
In Sasuke’s current view, Itachi was like a middle school dropout entering a chuuni phase—making extremely chuuni and foolish decisions under chuuni thinking, yet touching himself with the nobility of it all in a deranged way!
This kind of person made Sasuke want to laugh in fury—and even more, made him want to slap Itachi hundreds of times to slightly console the innocent Uchiha who had died tragically.
So, Sasuke’s stance toward Itachi now was:
First—Fight!
Second—I can’t be bothered explaining, you’re not worth hearing it!
Third—Today, I, Uchiha Sasuke, am not fighting alone. I am not alone. The souls and rage of the Uchiha burn within me! Itachi! Today, I will strike you down here—dattebayo!!!
With that resolve, Sasuke unleashed his full strength. In his Three Tomoe Sharingan form, he threw himself into a fierce assault with both taijutsu and ninjutsu.
Itachi met him head-on, holding nothing back.
But as the battle went on, Itachi began to fall into disadvantage.
Part of it was that his body was in truly terrible condition now. Unlike in the “original,” he had already suffered one flare-up of illness earlier, leaving him with a “weakened” status before the battle even began.
Also, his heart was clouded with worry. Thinking more than in the “original” only served to stack more debuffs on himself.
And Sasuke himself was different—his time in Gotham as Batman had not been useless. In taijutsu especially, he was stronger than his “original” self, and his integration of taijutsu and ninjutsu had also improved.
After all, Batman was someone who pushed his own advantages to the extreme, and while Sasuke wasn’t truly Batman, some of the things he’d learned in the game world could be applied in reality.
As a result, in basic ability matchups, Itachi was losing to Sasuke.
It surprised him. Originally, he had been thinking of ways to subtly hold back so Sasuke wouldn’t notice, while still allowing himself to be overpowered. But now, he didn’t have to hold back—if he didn’t go all out, he really might lose to Sasuke in basic ninjutsu and taijutsu exchanges.
So, Itachi tried using his specialty: genjutsu.
As a genjutsu master, even if his opponent had the Three Tomoe Sharingan, he was confident he could subdue them.
In the original story, Itachi did exactly that—easily catching Sasuke in a genjutsu, and if he hadn’t deliberately held back in that genjutsu, Sasuke wouldn’t have had any chance to counterattack.
After all, Orochimaru and Sasuke had very different fates when caught in genjutsu.
But this time, Itachi was shocked—his genjutsu failed.
Even though it landed successfully, Sasuke showed no reaction at all, not even a pause—he seemed outright immune.
This baffled Itachi, and he realized just how much effort his little brother must have put into preparing to face him—enough to outright ignore his top-tier genjutsu.
If Sasuke knew what Itachi was thinking, he might find it amusing, because only ten-odd days ago, Itachi’s genjutsu would still have worked—Sasuke could break free, but only after some time and chakra expenditure. Now, he could ignore it entirely.
Unaware of this, Itachi simply marveled at his brother’s growth—it was beyond expectations. If he didn’t show his true power now, forget pushing Sasuke to his limits, he himself would be the one pushed to his limit.
So be it. I already decided—to burn myself out in this battle, to clear the path ahead for Sasuke, so that he can return to the Hidden Leaf as a hero who hunted down a missing-nin…
As he thought this, the tomoe in Itachi’s eyes began to spin rapidly, soon forming a windmill pattern—the Mangekyo Sharingan.
In an instant, Itachi seemed to gain an all-attribute buff. His movements, attacks, and ninjutsu became far sharper—this was the effect of the Mangekyo Sharingan.
Activating the Mangekyo not only supercharged ocular power, but also represented a complete transformation triggered by the surge of Yin chakra.
From being utterly suppressed, Itachi now fought Sasuke to an even match.
Then, in that parity, Itachi seized an opening and used one of his Mangekyo techniques—Tsukuyomi.
This time, Sasuke was finally caught. In an instant, his consciousness was dragged into the world of Tsukuyomi, bound to a wooden post under a blood-red moon, over a surface of water, with Itachi himself standing before him.
With Mangekyo eyes cold and a katana in hand, Itachi spoke in a detached tone:
“Sasuke, for the next seventy-two hours, you will be under my control. This… is the power of the Mangekyo Sharingan.”
“If you still had Orochimaru’s Cursed Seal of Heaven, perhaps you could use its power to break Tsukuyomi. But now, without your own Mangekyo Sharingan, you cannot resist this power.”
Sasuke was silent for a moment—then smirked coldly.
“You’re not wrong, Itachi. Mangekyo power can indeed only be opposed by Mangekyo power. So… are you ready to withstand the impact of a Mangekyo greater than yours?”
Itachi froze. “What?”
In the next moment, he sensed something and snapped his head around.
A pitch-black figure stood behind him without him realizing—like the classic shadowy figures in anime, with only a pair of eyes visible. And those eyes… were a Mangekyo Sharingan beyond the ordinary.
The Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan!
Then, Itachi heard the figure speak:
“Itachi… we, the Uchiha, will be waiting for you in the Leaf.”
With those words, the terrifying power of the Eternal Mangekyo erupted. The pure impact of that ocular force tore Tsukuyomi’s world apart in an instant, shattering it completely.
The next instant, both brothers’ consciousness returned to reality—Sasuke standing unharmed, while Itachi clutched his Mangekyo eye in agony, as if he’d just run a marathon. His breath came in ragged gasps, sweat pouring down in large drops.
The eye that had cast Tsukuyomi throbbed with pain, tears of blood streaming from it. When he removed his hand, the sclera was bloodshot.
But Itachi paid no mind to the backlash from his forcibly broken Tsukuyomi. What mattered more was another matter entirely. His eyes—one narrowed from pain, the other wide—locked onto Sasuke as he asked in a low voice:
“Sasuke… what’s with those Mangekyo Sharingan? Who was that? He is definitely not Uchiha Madara!”
Sasuke clicked his tongue with a mocking smile:
“Uchiha Madara? Itachi, when did I ever say the Uchiha I met was Uchiha Madara? So? Not enjoying the Eternal Mangekyo’s ocular impact? With your Mangekyo that can only use Tsukuyomi, you won’t be able to use it again in this fight.”
Itachi: “……”
At this moment, he truly felt everything slipping out of his control—his body trembling slightly.
Especially because of what Sasuke had said.
Eternal Mangekyo!
Why… would there be an Eternal Mangekyo!?
