At this moment, the blackened Obito was truly furious, because young Kakashi’s actions had completely exceeded his expectations and disrupted his carefully crafted plan.
Now, the blackened Obito had a feeling that the situation was slipping out of his control, making him feel completely unsettled.
In the end, he took several deep breaths in succession, forcing himself to calm down, and then muttered in a low voice:
“Don’t panic. Things haven’t reached the worst point yet. Although developments have been unexpected, everything is still under control. Sasuke will still go to find Itachi, and Itachi is already prepared to die at Sasuke’s hands.”
“Konoha may have changed a little because of that guy Kakashi, but with Pain around, everything will be fine. As long as Nagato leads the Six Paths of Pain to attack Konoha, everything will work out. Things are still in my grasp!”
“Yes, that’s right. Everything is still under control. I just need to keep executing my plan.”
After muttering like this for a while, the blackened Obito felt back in control and immediately returned to his arrogant demeanor.
And so, in this situation, over in the No. 2 Konoha, the ‘house-cleaning’ operation against Root had also come to an end.
The shocking intelligence that was uncovered directly stunned those who learned about it.
Originally, because of the unauthorized action taken against No. 2 Danzo and Root, the two elders were furious. But when Tsunade threw all sorts of evidence right in front of them, the two advisor elders were completely flustered, even feeling a tingling on their scalps.
What’s more, to their terror, the Fifth Hokage seized the opportunity to attack, bringing up their support of Shimura Danzo, pointing out that Danzo could commit so many deranged acts that harmed the village precisely because of their backing.
On this point, they were left speechless, because they had indeed given Danzo a great deal of support. Not just before the Uchiha massacre—after the Third Hokage’s death, Danzo’s ability to rebuild Root could not have happened without their help.
If not for these two supporting him, what could the already long-detained Danzo have used to reorganize Root? Even if he had tried to assemble it secretly, it would still have been an illegal organization destined to be eradicated, not something that could remain active for several more years.
So, even if this accusation was a little unfair, the two advisor elders could not escape the responsibility they should bear.
When the Fifth Hokage pressed the matter, the elders were left with no defense.
Thus, under this overwhelming momentum, the two elders seemed to age ten years in an instant, were dismissed from their positions, and were listlessly placed under house arrest, awaiting the so-called ongoing investigation.
Of course, that “ongoing investigation” was most likely just for show—a way of making a statement rather than a real probe. Though Tsunade disliked the two old men, she wouldn’t treat them unfairly. Since they could no longer interfere in village affairs, letting them enjoy their retirement in peace was no issue.
In any case, for Tsunade, this counted as thoroughly cleansing the lingering poison left by the Third Hokage, which made her quite pleased.
However, at the same time, Tsunade began thinking about retirement. She had never been fond of the Hokage position to begin with—she only took it out of responsibility, as well as the redemption and hope Naruto had brought her, which made her decide to give Konoha another push. After all, she was the First Hokage’s granddaughter and couldn’t just abandon Konoha.
Now that Konoha’s situation was greatly improved and all the obstructive figures had been dealt with, Tsunade was considering handing the village over to the next Hokage in this favorable state.
Of course, she couldn’t retire right away. Konoha still had plenty of issues. The retirement of the two elders left a large power vacuum that needed to be filled, and the corruption they had allowed also had to be addressed. She couldn’t leave a mess for the next Hokage, so she needed to handle everything while still in office.
Fortunately, with authority now firmly in her grasp, handling these matters wasn’t difficult. After all, Konoha wasn’t that big and was essentially a military-led force—some problems could be resolved without much trouble.
Moreover, Kakashi had changed—no longer the lazy slacker he once was, but sharp-eyed and full of drive, like a lion lying in wait. She could entrust him with many tasks.
For example, the operations against Root were handled entirely by Kakashi. During this anti-corruption and power-consolidation period, much could be left to him. This also served as another kind of preparation—allowing Kakashi, the designated next Hokage, to get familiar with his duties and secure his own network of allies and subordinates, so that when he took office, he could immediately call on a large group to help him consolidate power.
Therefore, after seeing Kakashi handle his assignments well, Tsunade formed a clear plan—once the Akatsuki matter was resolved, she would pass the title of Hokage to Kakashi and go enjoy her retirement!
That was Tsunade’s real intention.
As for Kakashi, he was already prepared to take on the Hokage position, and at the same time, ready to face the power of Chaos.
Yes—the power to resist Chaos!
Although this was purely a scenario Uchiha Kei had planted in Kakashi’s mind through a genjutsu trick, making him believe it was real, during the investigation into No. 2 Danzo and Root, Kakashi had seen so many dark and insane things that his PTSD from the Warhammer 40K world was triggered.
Especially when he saw Root’s abominable and unnameable creations produced through various evil experiments—it was like seeing Chaos itself. They were so blasphemous, so anti-human, that aside from lacking the “aura,” they were another form of Chaos spawn.
In this situation, thanks to the earlier manipulation from Uchiha Kei’s genjutsu world, young Kakashi became convinced that this No. 2 ninja world had already drawn the gaze of Chaos and the Warp, and that some blasphemous force had quietly lured No. 2 Danzo into corruption.
Danzo himself might not even realize it—he would never suspect he had already been tainted by Chaos.
Because Chaos was exactly that terrifying—capable of corrupting and transforming someone into a will-less monster without them ever realizing it.
In the knowledge young Kakashi had acquired, this was made very clear.
Thus, after interrogating No. 2 Danzo and finding no information about Chaos, Kakashi concluded that Danzo had been unknowingly targeted and corrupted by Chaos—a method the daemons of the Warp excelled at.
Kakashi was now completely certain: in the Warhammer 40K world he had once seen, the teacher and father who had been corrupted by Chaos, as well as the destroyed ninja world, had all been the result of Danzo’s actions. In the original timeline, this idiot, corrupted without anyone realizing, had been left free to act.
In the end, his schemes spiraled out of control, leading to massive Chaos invasion and corruption, the fall of both ninja worlds, and the loss of Kakashi’s father and teacher to Chaos control.
Damn you, Shimura Danzo—you really do deserve to die!
Kakashi’s eyes were filled with killing intent.
Unfortunately, now was not the time to kill him—Konoha still needed to put him on public trial to restore some public trust, and also to give an explanation to Sasuke of the No. 2 world and the Uchiha of the main world.
So Kakashi could only suppress his killing intent, focus his mind, and continue swiftly handling the many duties on his shoulders.
Faced with such a high-efficiency workaholic Kakashi, the people of Konoha all felt a sense of unfamiliarity. No one had expected the once laid-back Kakashi to become so diligent.
Might Guy, who considered himself Kakashi’s best friend, even gasped at this, thinking Kakashi’s mind must be off and trying to “fix” it in his own way—by challenging Kakashi to a fight.
However, this attempt failed. This time, Kakashi didn’t make excuses to dodge Guy’s challenge—he accepted and fought him directly.
In the end, without opening the Eight Gates up to the Sixth Gate, Guy was easily defeated by the now-enhanced Kakashi.
Then, to Guy’s surprise and confusion, Kakashi quickly returned to his endless work, becoming a merciless working machine.
This left Guy more bewildered than ever, unsure what to do.
But soon, Kakashi approached Guy again and told him not to take any outside missions for now—if nothing unexpected happened, Guy would soon be sent on a mission with a group of other Konoha elite shinobi.
This mission was also meant to train these elite shinobi, so as Konoha’s strongest “nuclear weapon” in terms of combat power, Guy would certainly be going.
As for this so-called secret mission—it was, of course, to secretly head to the main world.
For now, the real details had to be kept secret, so they wouldn’t be told yet.
Meanwhile, Team 7 had been given a new mission: new intelligence had located Uchiha Itachi and Sasuke’s “Snake” squad, and Team 7 was to capture them.
Only this time, Team 7 wasn’t being led by Kakashi—it was being led by Naruto himself, once the most impulsive and unreliable one of all.
Yes—Naruto had been promoted to captain of Team 7.
This had never happened in the original story, but for the current Naruto, who had completed further training, it was no problem at all.
As Kakashi put it, Naruto’s strength had already surpassed his own. Having inherited his young teacher’s legacy and received direct guidance, Naruto’s wisdom and power were on a whole other level now—this mission posed no issues.
What’s more, as for who would be secretly following them—that was not for outsiders to know. So on the surface, sending just the three young members of Team 7 was no problem.
In reality, Naruto was no longer in a hurry to bring Sasuke back. Likewise, Sakura, Sasuke’s admirer, was in no rush either. As for Sai, who joined later, he was even less concerned.
This was because Uchiha Kei’s clone had secretly told them that the “Snake” squad had already been found earlier and taken to the main world for a time, and that Sasuke had been personally trained and looked after by Uchiha Kei.
Sasuke’s power had now greatly increased—he had awakened the Mangekyo Sharingan, learned many truths, and was no longer the extreme revenge-driven boy he once was. His current actions were merely part of a mission given to him: to settle matters with Itachi and capture him.
Thus, while Team 7’s mission appeared to be bringing Sasuke back and capturing the rogue Uchiha Itachi, in truth it was to draw the attention of those hiding in the shadows, buying Sasuke time.
At that point, the blackened Obito, wanting Sasuke and Itachi to have their destined brotherly duel, would likely personally appear to block Team 7, and might even think that with only three members, it was the perfect chance to seize Naruto—possibly leading him to bring reinforcements to attack.
In that case, Pain’s Six Paths might not attack Konoha directly, but instead ambush Naruto midway.
This would prevent Konoha from being destroyed by the Deva Path Pain and ensure Tsunade’s internal cleanup in No. 2 Konoha could proceed without interruption. Otherwise, if Nagato attacked as in the original story, Tsunade’s efforts would be halted, giving the lingering “poison” a chance to survive.
After all, when Konoha faced an external threat, internal disputes had to be set aside. And once the crisis reached the level of Konoha’s destruction, even if Nagato used the Samsara of Heavenly Life Technique to revive the villagers afterward, there would be no justification to continue purging those remnants.
Therefore, this mission by Team 7 was deliberately intended as bait.
Although with their current strength they could not withstand the full remaining force of the Akatsuki, the key was that “three members” on the surface didn’t mean there were only three in reality.
The Flying Thunder God Jutsu wasn’t just for show. While Naruto’s use of it was far less formidable than Minato’s, he could still use it to relay information and mark a location for Minato.
When the time came, Minato would appear with a massive group of elites.
The planned reinforcements included: two Jiraiyas, the First and Second Hokage, Minato, Sakumo Hatake, Uchiha Kei (puppet clone), a large group of Uchiha, as well as Sasori and Orochimaru—the two self-proclaimed “researchers.”
With such firepower, forget the current Akatsuki—even a resurrected Madara would feel his scalp go numb. It was enough to crush anything short of the Otsutsuki.
At that point, the biggest question would be whether they could capture Black Zetsu.
In fact, Uchiha Kei already had a plan and method for capturing Black Zetsu—the details would be revealed when the time came.
Of course, this was a “strike while the iron is hot” plan. If the Akatsuki didn’t take the bait of Team 7 going out alone and Obito just showed up alone to intercept, that was fine too. In that case, Naruto’s group would respond according to the situation.
Before departure, Uchiha Kei had gathered a group of strategists to analyze all possible scenarios, and using an exhaustive method, prepared many contingency plans for Naruto’s team. All they needed to do was choose the right plan based on the circumstances.
