Masterstudy- Gil Elvgren
🕑 Added 2022-11-07 17:27:03 +0000 UTCMasterstudies are an incredibly important part of developing as an artist. It's sort of like the active pursuit of your own aesthetic sensibilities through the works of others. Something about a picture can really get the neurons firing so sitting down to figure out what is evoking that from you is a worthwhile endeavor. Eventually you establish your own voice or style by taking a bit from this guy, a bit from that gal, and filtering it through your own opinions and abilities to make something new.
In this case, I really admire the work of Gil Elvgren. Dude got "pretty lady" paintings down to a science. Something I really like in particular is his use of edges, and his design of shadow shapes and highlights. This is what I was trying analyze with this short study.
Here's the finished piece, the initial lay in, and some close ups.
As a special reward for you guys, the VODs of my livestreams will be posted unlisted on YouTube for patrons to view or rewatch afterward. I'll be sending you the link via DM so keep an eye out for it!
