I actually enjoyed the "fluff". It's important to develop the characters and personalities so you have a strong base to build on. Especially considering its likely also build-up for the ambush.

It's felt like a lot of fluff the last few dozen chapters. I did like the beginning of the story. Though lately it's just felt like only every other third or fourth chapter is worth reading. I do wish I could give more constructive or precise feedback, but I can't think of much else. Ever since Benton reached nascent soul, or maybe even before that... It's felt more like an after story
