Encounter from my childhood...

I used to live on the border of Louisiana and Mississippi and me and my father hunted and camped out a lot. There was always rumors on different parts of the Pearl River about the Rougarou or Honey Island Swamp Monster or the crackhead that finds campers and steals stuff...
But...
Any time we camped at certain areas, we heard strange noises at night most nights that sounded like a wounded wolf howl or something... One night as we were getting to bed, I was in my tent and around 2am could hear something rustling and walking outside... I got my rifle, opened the zipper a little of the tent and looked out and saw a massive form just mildly silhouetted and camouflaged... most I could see was his eyes... and how they were at least 8 ft from the ground...
We woke the next morning and found a giant log laid across our fire and our cooler turned over, but none of the food was taken... I don't think I blinked so much as slept that whole night...
