My question is whether Rei’s sister Sarah plays nicely with Siderov in the second years. She sounds at the top of her game and he doesn’t like people taking away the limelight. Oh, another question, it’s seems weird we Havnt heard back from Rei’s grandfather since their first meeting? Thoughts?

First years won’t be competing at Globals. Chapter 58 book 2, when the general is listing off the conditions required for Aria and Rei to remain at Galen’s, he mentions that “Globals will be skipped, there aren’t enough teams on some planets to make the tournaments worth it, but starting this summer they will be implementing Systems with a first year bracket,” “and the top qualifiers there will be heading, well, to the very top.” But I guess we could see a time skip through a training montage, but it would be skipping quite a bit since there was snow on the ground a month ago when Viv first went to the hospital. It just seems that there’s a lot that could be fit in between where we are and the Summer, so much so that I’m not sure where this book will climax

Ehh, it would be pretty easy to do a time skip after the upcoming meeting with Sarah and (likely) Dice taking Viv under her wing outside of squad training into a skip to Globals, which I assume the first years would also be competing in. Chapter wise, this is about halfway through the book if compared to the other two, if you have say 5-8 chapters tying up the plot threads we’re currently looking at, the last of those chapters could easily be a last training session with von Boor and company before globals, leaving with 20+ chapters of globals content to zip through with a couple character/team building chapters put within it and HOPEFULLY more interaction with Hiroto since that plot thread is one I enjoy immensely. Then book 4 would be systems/intersystems leading into their second year most likely. At least that’s my current assumption of the trajectory of book 3.

Blue armband means third year. Green is second year and Jasper mentions that Sarah is second year. Now granted it could be another third year but by the "qualifications" that Gross and Kalus were just talking about needing... it has to be Dice.

A quick question about 31 V2 and Rei’s worries about not being able to progress.. Did he and Aria forget that at the end of book 2 they’d figured out that sparring without Shido called would also have an impact on Shidos progress?

Well damn, both of those chapters are awesome!!! I kinda expected Lennon to tell Rei about Sarah - as that’s who I suspect the transfer student is - but it worked out great! And ch32 is also great! Seeing behind the curtain like that is always nice… and it explains how Dice gets into the mix. Least I assume that’s Dice. Bryce, please leave 32 in place! It’s short and sweet but so appropriate!

This could not have come at a better time. After a minor surgery I had nothing to do but lay in bed and read these chapters. Not gonna lie, I hate cliff hangers but dang Bryce, you know how to keep a reader wanting more. Another great rewrite and new chapter sir.

31v2 turned out great, we are back to focusing on the climb and subtly foreshadowing the next story elements. 32 is a fun character piece, but aside from deepening a secondary character it feels a bit artificial to me. Fun read regardless...

First off, solid work as always. Now based on the first two books we are right around the halfway point of the book and I find myself curious how this one will culminate. Book one had a lot of world building, then we were introduced to the intra-school SCTs, which the tournament climaxed that book. Book two was all about prep for and the fulfillment of sectionals. We know that Firesong has Systems and Inter-Systems in the future but that feels very distant especially since the 2nd and 3rd years haven’t gone to globals yet. I’m just at a loss for what the climax of this book is going to be… I’m getting a feeling this one will end on a cliff hanger right before it’s time to go to Systems.

Does Lennon know that they are being sponsored by Kamiya specifically? If so, then he should recognize Sarah's name (the Kamiya portion at least) so I could see him mentioning that to Rei. But if he only knows that Firesong has a sponsor, then he mightn't think to mention it.

Omg!!! These cliff hangars!! I can't take it!! Mr Bryce, nice addition to ch. 31, it was a really great read. Now I'm having a fit of anxiety from all the anticipation lol but besides that I feel 32 fits. I like the switch in perspective. It's almost like we get a slight breather between the "race" of Firestone growing and the anxiety of viv's comeback. I also really like getting to know the instructors a little more also.

I am so happy with the rewrite of 31. It really pulls everything together. 32 seems like it would be great in an interlude chapter with several other short pieces that tie together. Maybe other shorts about the other trainers and their tangential interactions with Firesong. Just saying though that I love it.

Thanks for the chapters. A great start to my weekend! I really liked the Ch 32 content and would love to see it in the Final Cut. Great additions to Ch 31, though I’m still struggling with the distant tone of the first few sections. I much prefer when we are in the moment with the characters, but that doesn’t really happen until the final few scenes. Looking forward to seeing Viv and Dice training together. Really, REALLY, looking forward to seeing Viv kick Rei’s butt for the first time using Endwalker, and seeing how Shido will adapt to it!

Imagine Rei's sister is the one and they have to deal with all that drama. I wonder if that would hurt Arada's mental or help? She doesn't seem to like the fact that Rei's family is trying to get back in his life. She wouldn't want to allow them to get at Rei, like a mother protecting.

Chapter 32 is good—so far. I hope the cadet waiting in the hall is Candice Meyer. She already knows a lot about Firesong and Rei has his reasons to trust her. Also as others have commented today, Viv has a passing acquaintance with Dice through Christopher Lennon.

31V1 felt like it was missing that last little punch, which V2 really nailed down. I appreciate the info on the team dynamics with trying to figure this HUGE secret out together. 32 was something I didn't know I wanted. It's always great when we get to see other perspectives of Firesong. With Kalus's input on Arada's mental, really shows the effects his mother and father probably had on him. He is trying his hardest to not only see Arada as a set of numbers but as a person, love that. Liam seems to also have that in mind as well. I really like how the instructors can see the difference in Firesong and are doing their best to help in any way possible. Great job on these chapters!

Chapter 31 was solid, but the v2 was a good polish up. Chapter 32 is honestly amazing, despite its short length. The backstory, the interaction between the relaxed Kalus and rigid Liam, and then the ending of the phone call, loved it! Absolutely brilliant.

It seems as though things get flushed out in the edited versions of the chapters. So, I’m going to love reading those. I don’t think 32 should be an extra, I think it flows with the rest of the book just fine. :-) I think I can understand the secrecy, the kids really don’t know whom to trust at this point at least not too well, plus they’re young and young people tend to do crazy things sometimes. Plus, the secrecy adds to the tension of the book. Lol.

Though as noted noone at Galens is dumb and Rei’s sister has the same distinct eyes and hair color - though maybe the different last name and probably very different mannerisms kept Lennon from making the connection. Or maybe she even asked Lennon to stay quiet with Rei.

That is exactly what I was thinking! He is going to say something about it being Reis sister but then I remembered that would make no sense because no one outside their group knows that story. I dont like the secrets they keep so often though. At this point you would think they all know they can trust the Bishop or very least one of the doctors that know about the shard.

I dunno I could maybe have seen the acclimation idea making sense. Rei had S from the start and the rest of his stats were near baseline. Viv is much more normal and farther along with her stats by comparison. I'll guess that's Dice that'll be helping out which is cool. Also seems Rei is aware of Sidorav still, which is a good thing. I liked the chapter with Gross. Getting a bit of info on the instructors is cool since we don't really spend much personal time with them. Hearing he appears to have a thing for de Soto was cute too.

So much good stuff in the rewrite! I really like the short 32 as well. Even though it is only a few pages right now I think it fits perfectly. Hearing a small bit of Gross’s backstory and how he was/is truly worried about Viv shows the instructors are human and do care about the kids. So hoping that was Dice Liam ran into! She is so nice, she needs to be read in and allowed to get in on the action! Im also sure that Viv would really like practicing with her.
