I’m hoping for either Hiroto Kamiya or a Sunday night training session where Rei/Aria has them go CADless (from their sectionals findings) and everyone sees a surprising stat bump. Guessing Bryce has been somewhat reworking last drop, doing Wraithmarked duties, and figuring out where the arcs lead to next in his MIND.

I’m saying it would be weird for shido to talk to anyone but their own user first. You brought up how Kes helped distract dents mind with her injury which with reis body being 94% damage before he tested out the new shift and temporal shift it would have been perfect to distract his mind when he was in pain by just being awake sitting in the stands. Like I said her brain is the more traumatic injury because of where it’s located, Nero line is more for NOED because it can happen to non CAD users as well. It’s how they use them, and she’ll wake up in a few days but other than brain swelling she is reportedly fine. Her injury is more traumatic because brains are fragile, while I would argue 94% of your body being torn, fractured, is the more injured of the two. Basically her brain put itself in reset mode to protect its self, reis body couldn’t do that when it ripped itself apart all while experiencing that pain and psychological trauma. Viv reached her breaking point by pushing herself, rei and multiple dozens to hundreds of SO weapon strikes all at one time combine the mental pain with physical pain rei injury is far worse imo. Since his body can’t shut down to rest like vivs brain, rei still had to breath, move, blink talk anything that requires muscle movement, joint, and skeletal movement. Overall yes vivs injury more traumatic because of location but not nearly as comprehensive or as injured as rei. Still think it’s the mind because it’s connected to all cads else how can it track development and inform central of evolutions and abilities.

I was thinking about that, too. Especially if they would let a second year squad leader go who has put in quite some work with their team already. Maybe we will get a viewpoint chapter of that discussion.

Shido isn't talking to Rei via a third party as it isn't talking to Rei at all. And I would say that brain damage and a fried neuroline (which if I'm not mistaken plays a huge role in the CAD connecting to the user) would be a more traumatic injury than multiple muscle injuries.

Curious though what really gets a user and CAD to start communicating because as scarred and injured as Carmen has been no hint that Corpsus is sentient/sapient (??) but Vivs might be given her extreme brush with trauma?

Sooooo effing goooooood!!! I’m torn between if that voice is Shido or the MIND. In book 2 when Dent felt that telling Rei more would help keep him focused and motivated the MIND mentioned that if she started Rei would want to know everything which left me thinking there’s a larger presence to all of this. Even Dents flashbacks to a cave and Carmen practicing to delve into rock… yeaaaaa whatever spawns arcons is next level… loving the cue up

I hadn't thought about that, but I guess you are right. If Kestrel could access the controls on the fields, then Shido could too, if it is sentient enough. I think that is the big question though because we don't yet know how sentient Shido actually is yet. Though I have no doubt whatsoever that it will become sentient at some point.

Also, Von Bor is a Sword Wielding Varient, so perhaps she can cover the Saber angle too?? This could free up Wrainwright to cover something else.. 🤷🏿‍♂️

Idk would be really weird for reis device having to talk to him via a third party, especially since he has a hud within his own helmet now, last book he thinks he doesn’t even need to mess with his noed any more so with a growth type cad it wouldn’t make sense for it to connect and talk to anyone but rei first. I would argue that reis body being 94% damaged in last book is more injured than viv. Vivs is more traumatic because the brain is fragile, she really only has swelling of the brain because her neuroline tech was fried. With rei being in more pain from his attack by the S0 that assaulted not only the brain but because of that made his body spasm so hard it ripped itself apart, it would have been a good time to distract him too since it also evolved at that time as well.

I was thinking the other day and realized that all CADs must have some ability for telepathy with their users, otherwise how would voiceless commands work. This leads into my conspiracy angle that I'm not sure I really believe in but that fits some of the clues thus far. We know that someone/something is causing Rei to be pushed. We are assuming that it is coming from Central, but the MIND hasn't found the proof yet. One thing that I have noticed is though Dent frequently verbally reminds people that Rei is still a kid, when she thinks of the war, she mentally thinks "ANYTHING TO MAKE HIM STRONGER." Since CADs must be able to either read their users minds or have some telepathic abilities, I have wondered if Kestrel is picking up on Dent's underlying thoughts and with its lack of human understanding is the impetus behind some of the events pushing Rei. Personally, I still think it is someone at Central but I can't get this little thought out of my head.

We don't know why it isn't talking to Rei yet. I have theorized that Kestrel started talking to Dent after she got her face blown off as she was so very seriously injured. That was the perfect time to distract her with the discovery that her CAD was becoming sentient. Viv is so deeply injured that it would be easier for Shido to talk to her, I'm thinking. Despite his many injuries since receiving the CAD, Rei has not been as drastically injured as Viv is right now, so maybe Shido hasn't decided that he needs to know yet. Viv doesn't know who is talking to her and may not remember once she is awake so no secrets have yet been disclosed.

Someone named Wainwright that we haven't met yet. Probably a saber or brawler since Rei's three current types are brawler/saber/phalanx. We know that Kalus is an A type but we don't know what type of A type so he might be able to cover either brawler or saber. Von Bor is there to cover the phalanx. Don't know if they will also end up with the other three types now that all of Firesong is supposed to be included.

Rama is going to come down hard on her if she tries to meddle again, and if grandpa finds out then with his scorched earth policy mindset right now good look to her. Grandpa seems to be a tad protective already, or to mention her brother would be there as well so she would be very out numbers if she tried to mess with rei.

If it is shido why isn’t it talking to rei tho, it could be the shard portion but should still be able to talk to rei, didn’t the MIND say it would take care of her tho since it was its own fault she is their for miscalculating? Red might just be dents way of identifying Kes from the mind, default could all be white. Since Kes has both been green and blue texts.

I want to see Sarah absolutely destroy sidorov since they are both second years. She put in for the transfer, but they don’t have to approve it. Could use her background to grease the wheels, know her parents she’s learned a thing or two about that from them.

The MIND might now about Reis parents but I doubt it cares much right now. If it did I think it would tell Dent due to the psychological impacts I could have on him by pushing him or breaking him. But I don’t think it cares much anyway, it would probably have to go thru thousands of wards to find him and his parents don’t seem the type to leave information about it, else I think his grandpa would have been able to find info about him/his death at some point. Only his squad knows so far, Rama doesn’t know just told him be careful cause jasper scared both him and rei. Carmen knows about the offer but not family if he doesn’t even know his own daughters boyfriend doubt he would know his family pedigree other than Ward. I get the impression award is like a hard stop, people don’t look into it or look past it. It’s a “dirty” word in their culture else it would be an insult people fling around at him, and if HIPAA laws are still present those ward files would be locked down tight as well.

I still haven't figured out why the military would allow her to transfer from a prestigious SOL academy where she is the squad leader for a second-year team that took second place in Sectionals to Galens, who is well known in their area but is not truly a top notch school compared to her current school.

I’ve been wondering the same. Who knows about the Kamiya relationship to Rei? The Mind, Carmen, Rama, Abel? Seems like Carmen knows more about them now than he did during the ‘I’m concerned’ meeting. But it would make sense that the Mind could be the gatekeeper of that information. Anyway can’t wait to find out more in the next chapters.

I’m hoping so much she will be the big protective sister and not the cold competitive one. She can be intense and all but hopefully she won’t become antagonistic towards Rei. Oh and maybe Rei could figure out who she is by her eye color like with Hiroto.

Nah - if you reread the scene Logan is the first to reach down, with both hands - so just the first contact and first voice in the room to awaken inner Viv. The Viv PoV scene also felt the most [Rough] of the text - so I’m not gonna critique it too much yet.

Started and ended with a “WHAT”. I liked the redo of the end of the hospital scene. Stronger character scenes. The additions of other viewpoints was nice too. Is that the hospital AI telling Viv to ease up? Minor quibble: “viv’s face was hidden by the DTRU” followed by “good to see they cleaned the blood off her nose” - um how can you see the nose…? Is transparent or only the top of her face covered maybe?
