Also does anyone else think ‘Ruinous’ is a bad name to replace Catcher’s original move name of ‘Blade Break’? The reason it sounds so weird is that all other move names are nouns and ‘Ruinous’, while edgy and cool and whatnot, is clearly an adjective. “Catcher used ruinous” is inherently clunky due to that

Aside from the soap opera-fication of the story in book 2 getting to most of us I think another big problem most people are seeing is that chapters revolve around dragged out conversations with 5-6 people just doing reaction shots to the same piece of information 😂 like come on I don’t think career military officers who’ve all seen combat to the death would be at the verge of a nervous breakdown because 1 cadet, however special, injured themselves in training. Dial it down a bit 😂 get back to the progression lol

No Word on either Warformed or here. Honestly im questioning My support with the tempo of book tree. I know Bryce was sick, but radio silence and hardly Any progress... Might just wait for the finishen book. I fear this might taint My enjoyment of the book as a whole 😵‍💫☹️

Started reading book 1 to my students during Drop Everything And Read (DEAR), and a few seem to be hooked. They were so involved when I was explaining Abilities and the technical language in the 1st chapter 😂

Hopefully soon progress and time will be back in synch (progress, story arc and drivers) and we can see where the rest of the story year goes. - Rei & Firesong's progress -specialised training etc. in preparation for big end of year tournaments

It felt like book1 was getting the Main Protaganist in to the story and established. Book 2 and the commencement of book3 was/is setting up the backstory, the politics etc, and inferring the obvious major challenge (the elephant in the room that is driving everything - repeated mentions to 5 years and running out of time etc).

I don't think Kes gathered data about Viv. I think the data that Dent is talking about is their data on humans as they try to learn more about them. It's an ongoing process for the AIs, to improve their understanding of why humans act the way they do.

And they haven’t even gotten back to the room to update Catcher, Cashe, and probably Grant… about a number of things… and figuring out how/if to backtrack on telling them Shido “did something weird”. Though I guess “classified” is an answer.

I'm surprised Rei didn't call on his device and look at Viv through his helm's HUD. A change in color would be one thing to look for (blue to gold, or a different shade of blue). Also, any data the HUD could provide on her, with the link established: health, diagnostics, ...

Just read The Story So Far. Noticed in Chapter 1 at the end Dent throws a curse at the MIND... which I took to be a generic curse on first read - but now... Also looked up Venus a bit - apparently it's very similar to the earth in size, gravity, and even composition - the reason we don't look there to colonize is the atmosphere is GIANT, mostly CO2, but also sulfuric acid clouds, and also insanely hot due to pressure of the giant atmo. So specialized trees that could process down the CO2 and withstand the heat would be a thing - after other "future tech" has a go. Currently every ship humans have landed there gets burned/crushed about an hour after it lands. Most interesting Venus fact - it's year (orbit around the sun) is shorter than its day (single revolution because it spins so slowly and is also the only planet that spins in the opposite direction).

When I was at university, I was told by a professor that the different between physics and engineering is ‘+FF’ or the need to add a ‘fudge factor’ to every equation to account for the real world and human nature. Seems MIND, and Kes, could do with remembering that. Also, anyone else super curious as to what data Kes gathered? Is she communicating with Gemela too?? Definitely keen to see Rei try and use the link

I think you are onto sumting there with the link comment... but the wrong end: not the staff but the kids, once back together, are gonna be looking into that on their own as a logical progression of their team discussions. And about team discussions; not fussy about keeping what happened to Viv from the others after literally saying secrets break teams. Screw orders on that one if I were Rei. The team needs come 1st. This is getting good. AND heavy. EDIT: Not critical of the content (after re-reading it i felt it may be misinterpreted). I remember the most significant thing that surprised me upon release was that compared to Iron Prince, which took place steadily over a few months, the majority of Fire and Song lasted a week... AND NOW SO MUCH HAS HAPPENED WITHIN ABOUT 8 HOURS!!! Evening training -> charades with Laraunt -> spending the night together -> Viv gets her UU ability, and so on and so forth like HOLY SHIT. I hope this is where the adrenaline ends! I can't wait for chapter 30 or something to get drafted so that I can reread the whole series again... and then get to the night that lasted; what? 10? 15 chapters? Across TWO BOOKS, no less! TL.DR: Keep it up, Bryce! I'm bloody well hooked!

Was hoping one of the staff would ask Rei to try using his link - push some requests to Shido for link configuration or ping Gamela or find out it only works during combat or … (ed: though maybe not try link with a CAD helping prevent brain damage…) Another good buildup chapter. Some Dent/Mind conflict building. How do you convince super giant AI though of collateral effects of “tooling” humans?
