Evolution is a really good guess. Book two is definitely about everyone in Firesong’s fighting ability changes and their coming together into a cohesive unit, almost like a perfectly attuned family.

Wayyy more so than it is about Viv’s struggles. I’m hoping Bryce is either cheesing us and it is FS (possible, bc it’s Bryce lol), or it’s something we haven’t guessed 👀
