Dunno what you don’t get about the crowd cheering for rei? Imagine the World Cup final and one of the star players has a horrendous injury but manages to come back out to lift the trophy.

From how I read it they were all cheering for firesong, and Rei stood up while the crowd was cheering. When he stood up the cheering intensified which indicates that they were cheering for him specifically.
