Some of us were bullied in high school, some of us were picked on, joked with about being over or underweight, wearing glasses or braces, etc etc. I look back at those folks who really wen through it, and 40 years (yep, 40 years ago I graduated!) later they’re living their lives and never took a gun to work or school because of it. It is happening far too often and far too few seem to care. I’d rather live in a country that cares about our children that a country that values owning a gun over the safety of our kids. Like you said Mike, I don’t get it and I just don’t get it—makes no sense to me.

In my county in Florida, school times are due to the number of buses and getting the older kids out for work or duel enrollment college classes. The same buses and bus pick up areas are used for all grades. The younger elementary school kids, grade kindergarten through 5th) go from 8:30 to 2:30 approximately, the middle grades, 6-8 go 9:45-4:00 again approximately. The older high school kids go 7:30-1:30. It stops confusion at the bus stops and less buses on the road.

First of all, civilians are not allowed to own AK47s. Secondly, an AR15 is just a rifle. Just like all the other rifles. Thirdly, the WaPo is not an unbiased source. Fourth. And finally, I already gave my opinion on this matter when replying to a comment above, so there's no need to repeat myself; but this I will say: as a matter of principle, I'm agaist the death penalty AND life imprisonment (and the reason is because I think prison must serve, fundamentally, two purposes: one is protecting society from the wrong doers, and the other is reabilitating said wrong doers). I guess this TJ character is the exception that confirms the rule. I hope he stays in prison for the rest of his life - probably not that much time, if he keeps the attitude he's showing until now! Love ya!

By the time the 2nd amendment was added to the Constitution (I'm not sure of the year, but it was certainly on the XVIII or XIX century), it made complete sense that common citizens were allowed to own guns: it was a new nation, growing in territory and population by the day, and there was no structure to enforce the law. But, as always, with time things got more controlled, and the State (not referring to individual states, but the State as an entity) became able to provide protection for its citizens. Mike, I know it's not popular in the true crime community to do school shootings but I think they're so important to talk if done the right way, which I believe you did, about and pretending they're not there isn't helping us at all and is a huge part of true crime along with mass shootings. Yes I do believe there have been that many mass shootings since that number comes from your own government! Also it’s over 300 in 151 days - Jan 1 - June 1/22. That’s over 2 a day. A single suicide is not counted in the mass shootings. At least 3 people have to be shot (injured or killed) to qualify. If you don’t believe the math your government provides you cannot believe the math you are going by either. I won’t reply again. The facts are the facts. You can’t change them by explaining them away with “but…”

Math doesn't lie but how it's calculated can lead to deception. Deb is correct, almost 1/2 of the shootings in the US are suicide but they are counted in with murder. Do you really believe there have been 300 mass shootings this year? That is 206 days so it would average a little over 1 a day. Too many shootings - Yes, but for crying out loud someone just tried to kill a congressman with a keychain.

Mike - You might want to look up Michael Ryan and the Rulo Cult Murders in Rulo, Nebraska I think you would probably not be able to describe a lot of what went on there, but it's an interesting look at how people in a small farming community can follow a crazy leader to murder people.

Since July 1st there have been 73 mass shootings in the USA with 10 on July 4th alone. It is verifiable information with the government providing this information (and where I found the statistics). The USA is the only country in the world where the amount of mass shootings occur. It is FACT that restricting weapons such as AR15s and AK47s removes the risk of these horrible occurrences from happening. Keeping guns out of the hands of people with criminal records or mental health issues is paramount. Yes knives can kill as well but you cannot murder dozens of people in a matter of seconds with one knife. This is pure logic and common sense. We do not have 2 mass shootings a day. Furthermore, we apparently quantify gun violence differently here than other countries do, so the numbers include gangs and suicides. There is no universal way to calculate mass shootings, so the data are often incompatible. In fact, in a 2019 study that compared four different databases, the number of mass shooting events recorded in the U.S. for the year 2017 ranged from a low of 11 to a high of 346. Clearly, a significant error margin exists, particularly when creating country-to-country comparisons. And lastly, other countries do experience mass violence by other means, such as with vehicles and stabbings. The US gets a lot of press, but violence exists everywhere. You cannot legislate evil away.

The second amendment was written during a time when guns were single shot weapons and wildlife was a true threat to people. I remember this vividly. I was born and grew up in North East Ohio- living in Charleston SC now. *Mike, Id love to see you do the story of The Emmanuel 9 (shooter: the evil a**h***, Dylan Roof) in Charleston, SC. I was working in the Drug and Alcohol Inpatient unit a couple blocks away in 2015 and it was terrifying. It shook our city to the core, but we came back stronger and united as a whole.
