Yeah, that’s the problem I have with it. That’s not the only one, as a low income person, life insurance is a luxury I am not able to afford at this time. A lot of my skepticism stems from jealousy. It’s a pretty good idea in reality. My son could benefit if I got a life insurance policy for myself, in the event I die at work or something. But then, it could put a target on my back if his father found out about it.

But consider - if one loses their spouse who doesn’t bring income to the household. The children must then be provided with daycare or before and after school care for years when the single parent goes off to the job. Also, you can bet that insurance companies (at least, here in the U.S.) cap the amount of life insurance that can be purchased based on the actual & potential losses the family would incur, essentially assigning a cash value to that life (Gross).

It’s quite common for married people to take out equivalent life insurance policies. I haven’t watched any trial footage but I wouldn’t be surprised if she prompted him to get the policies in order to implicate him as the originator of the kidnapping plot.
