Aw hello Patsy! So sorry for the late reply.. I just happened to see your message now! I'm not sure why but I don't seem to get any notifications on here! I must have them turned off, I'll have to check the settings! I have just been reading about The White Plague.. I have no idea how this has skipped me by but this is actually the first time I've heard of it! So thank you so much for bringing it to my attention! While I do love Dune, it just occurred to me that I am not familiar with much of Frank Herbert's other work. I see there's a lot about the IRA in this White Plague! I'm both fascinated and intrigued that FH was writing about this as I'm Irish myself, from the North where majority of the more recent Troubles took place.. I actually live pretty much in the general area of "Bandit Country" (Mike would probably know where that is!) which was basically the IRA's main location in the old days. Where it was too dangerous from the British Army to travel anywhere by land and they needed to go everywhere by helicopters.. and even one or two of those got shot down out of the sky. I can remember back when I was a child the skies used to be full of army helicopters and even big twin rotor chanooks.. one of my very first memories is standing at the back door with my Mom and hearing a huge boom and rumble like the loudest thunder ever, then later we found out that the nearest town had been blown up, that was almost 10 miles away and the sound was still really loud at my house, it was almost like the ground shook, I couldn't have been more than 3 at the time. Thankfully all that is over now (at least for the most part) and things are much better. I just realised you may be from here too so you maybe know all this as well as me! I always make the mistake of just assuming most folks on here are from US or England! Thank you again for telling me about White Plague! I will definitely look for a copy online and buy it! I love books. Real books. Never liked those electronic books! I like proper paper books. Especially nice ones. The Folio Society are one of my favourites. They do lovely books. I actually bought their copy of Dune. It was around £100 but it's really lovely. They done a super limited even more special edition of Dune which was about £500. I'd probably have bought it but it was a surprise release and I'd just got their other Dune and hadn't much money that week and it sold out really fast like in a matter of hours before I could get one of the super limited one. I think there was initially some people who wanted Matt Reeves to direct Dune but ultimately Reeves done The Batman and Dune went to Denis Villeneuve, I personally think that was the right decision. Apparently it has been a life long ambition of Villeneuve's to adapt Dune and he done his two previous sci-fi films as somewhat of a "warm up" to prepare him for something the scope of Dune. He also only agreed to do it if he could adapt the first book over two parts.. so essentially this only covers approx the first half of Dune. I really hope the second part will be made as this one was amazing. Interesting story about Lynch's Dune! It was out quite a while before I was even born so I missed seeing that one at release time! I'd love to see one of those cheat sheets today! Probably worth a small fortune! I've heard the miniseries (open to correction but I think it was on SciFi Channel) from around early 00s is great also and very respectful to the source material. For whatever reason, I have not seen the miniseries so far.. I have it and I maybe will give it a watch now.

Well, I personally thought it was no less than amazing! I'd have to say, in my opinion it's the best sci-fi adaption of modern times. I thought it was the best thing I've seen in a very long time.. I can't think of any sci-fi that I'd call comparable, at least not in my lifetime. That said I'm a fan of Frank Herbert's Dune series and I really like Denis Villeneuve as a director. I've been waiting on it for years and it did not disappoint! I've no idea what the general consensus is but I thought it was truly fantastic. That's my take. I suppose it all depends on what you're into but I think it'll blow your mind!

Sex work wouldn't exist if not for MEN, and those desperate enough to take on that disgusting job ought to be given protection via DEcriminalization and a thorough vetting of their patrons (like in Reno). We, as societies should NOT devalue them and they should be protected (& taxed) by our legal system. They ARE NOT garbage. They're just souls, who find themselves in SHIT situations. Although I enjoyed being an exotic dancer (because dancing & chatting is fun & they COULD NOT touch us), I have also worked in emergency rescue kennels and mucked out stalls at animal sanctuaries. These cases make my blood boil. I hate the way the odds are so stacked against sex workers. They are exploited and victimised at every turn. I’ve actually joined the U.K. collective of prostitutes as an ally and am doing what I can to help lobby politicians to change the law. If we legalised sex work, we could regulate and tax it. The taxes raised could help fight human trafficking, preventing more women from being abused and exploited, plus the legal brothels would help the industry to self regulate- they would be incentivised to turn in the traffickers who would be undercutting them, breaking the rules & taking their profits. I just wonder how many more sex workers, of all genders, will be murdered before governments act. Frustrating.
