Oh don't worry, I think creators still get revenue from YouTube Premium, but it comes directly from YouTube, not advertisers.

Hi Mike, me again. I had a look at the sponsored version of this video at YouTube. In what follows, bear in mind that I belong to YouTube Premium and so, I don't see inserted adverts. ~ Aside: I wonder if being a premium member is denying ad revenue to monetized videos? I hope not, but I feel like something of a freeloader to people who monetize and thus, in my angst, I become a patron of my favourite creators. I want to chip in, but I don't want to be annoyed by jarring adverts. ~ Your inline advert was cool, because it felt like a brief aside from the conversation. I like that it was apparently ad lib. Flashing the cicada was a nice touch. ~ I'm a fan of classic radio shows (before TV existed) and the averts in those shows were often a part of the programme, occasionally with hilarious results as they were broadcast live. ~ Now, hypothetically speaking as someone who doesn't belong to YouTube Premium , it boils down to reciprocity. You work hard to make a video and you want to tell me about someone who's willing to pay you for your hard work and to broadcast it. I'm listening...

Thanks Mike, for the most coherent explanation of Cicada 3301 that I've ever encountered, not that there's anything really coherent about them. In a vague way, this reminds me of the Q-anon nonsense, just one or more people messing with people's heads for the hell of it albeit with rather different goals in mind between them.

It's a crazy, unsolved case that would be right up your alley. There's even a tinfoil hat angle you could take, as it has developed into a ghost story. yes awesome i was litteraly just hopping for a foil hat video also oddly enough just today noticed a Cicada on the gtound wile i was out with my dog...strange almost to strange not to be a sign.
