One element in this case that I think is interesting is that it took place in the first few years of Twitter, but before Instagram or Snapchat were invented/became popular. So not only did you have a larger proportion of young users, but there was far less discretion and self-awareness than there is now about posting to public social media. Which is how you get this almost real-time stream of consciousness from these three girls. This was a similar element in the Steubenville rape case, which I believe also took place in 2012

Again a wonderfully empathetic video Mike. It’s truly disturbing to see what these two girls were capable of. One of the main issues is that the teenage brain is that it is so poorly developed at that point. That’s not to say that the girls didn’t know right from wrong, but the high level of risk taking that happens with teenagers and their lack of cognitive ability to map out the ramifications of their actions tempers my anger somewhat at the horrific nature of what they’ve done. There will come a point in the next five to ten years when the enormity of what they have done will hit them full force. There will never be any true closure to this case.

This story is just heartbreaking! As a mother of 2, one being a ten daughter mind you, this just hurts my heart. I think they got easy sentences. I feel for her family and pray for some peace. Another awesome episode, Mike! Thank you!
