Checked to see and seems like no one corrected Tom on his Neil Young trivia: Sweet Home Alabama is not about calling Young a culture vulture but about hitting him back for his two songs Southern Man (really good) and Alabama (eh) for being overly broad in its criticism of southerners instead of just racist southerners. That sort of reminds me of my sister’s finance literally asking if she loved him more than me, her little sister. Which is absolutely ridiculous because I’m her family, and the idea that the love could be ranked as more or less than a romantic relationship is (1) perverse (2) ridiculous because sibling love is eternal despite crazy fights and betrayals, and romantic love is more ephemeral. I can hate my sister more than anything but I will still always love her. I can hate a boyfriend or a partner more than anything and that usually in my experience very seldom accompanies love, despite all the dumb bullshit about “hate is the same as love because it’s about intensity” lol.

Maybe, or maybe you’re not experiencing the depth of friendship that is possible! I’ve been friends with people who I loved so deeply they felt like family. And family (while mine is flawed and abusive) is kinda something that transcends romantic relationships as far as the depth of love and the longevity of the relationship. Romantic relationships are deep and carnal but (in my experience) can be short-lived in many cases.
