Beltane was actually recorded during the sessions for the next album, which was Heavy Horses

Potted Rodent

Heavy Horses and Too Old to Rock n Roll, both seem to always be overlooked.

FYI Dee Palmer was, at the time, working under a different name, but at some point later transitioned. She is a trans woman. So "she" is the proper pronoun ("Dee" is ambiguous, but I thought you would want to know).

For me the best Tull-album, combining folk, rock - and prog - and baroque! Many parts, especially in Velvet Green and Pibroch remind me of baroque chamber music regarding the counterpoint and the polyphonic writing. I think Dee Palmer (the guy with the portative pipe organ), is responsible for these parts. In Pibroch, we have at 3:23 a kind of fugato - did you notice that? Great musicianship!

Next one? Heavy Horses!

Personally, I love their much more recent album, RokFlote. Whilst Ian's voice sadly lacks the quality of the past, his flute playing is fabulous.

I agree

I always felt Belatane belonged sonically to the Heavy Horses album, despite the pagan lyrics. Vocally and arrangement-wise, it has Heavy Horses fingerprints all over it.

While the calander might say Spring starts on a certain day of the year, for us in The Orkney and Shetland Islands it is still the middle of Winter as it takes 4 - 6 weeks after that date for Spring to reach us!!!

Stand Up and Benefit are too essential to miss.
