They just don't make television at this level anymore. It invites so many nuanced opinions between viewers, but it’s completely unprepared to hand-hold unlike the majority of modern media. The number of double binds Dr. Melfi alone has to deal with in this one episode, paired with one of the best-constructed dream sequences ever put to screen, make this whole episode necessary. Any choice Melfi makes comes with a terrible psychological toll; in my opinion, her saying 'No' is a final grasp at reclaiming some agency In this situation and recovering from the gender dynamics emerging between her and Tony, not to mention the other men in her life. Great reaction as always, I couldn't agree more about the dream sequences having a certain 'buoyancy.' To me, the experience is like being on a raft in light but slightly uneasy chop on the ocean.

Melfi was so close to breaking bad

We've addressed the heavier stuff in other comments, so on a lighter note, the reaction to Janice's delusional BS in the hospital scene was pure reaction gold! Looking forward to a lighter day tomorrow with one of my favorited AD episodes.
