I think severance takes place currently and all the Lumon employees drive cars and use devices with limited digital or analog tech to help reduce cyber attacks or espionage. However, cell phones are modern, but they're placed in the lockers before entering the severed floor. Perhaps there's some sort of Faraday cage in the lockers to block signals? Also, the executives drive cars with digital tech, so maybe there's some sort of firewall only available to trusted employees.

I think severance is depicting the life of a middle class 9 to 5 worker irl but more brutal cuz last year of high-school for me right I would get up go to school come around 4 then wake up as in for entire 8 hrs my brain shut down cuz it became a routine
