Embrace Of The Abyss– 10
🕑 Added 2024-03-30 12:13:22 +0000 UTCXia Feng's clothes fluttered against the wind as he flew high in the sky.
He didn't expect them to sacrifice the Divination Celestial.
How did they break the curse he put on him?
Or rather, did they break the curse at all?
Xia Feng was confused but it didn't linger in his mind for long and he focused on his mission.
He soon returned home and silently entered Xia Ling's room.
Xia Ling's figure was constantly running around the room. Yet what was odd was that her footsteps left no sound, she possessed no shadow and her aura had disappeared.
She was excitedly playing with the Death Steps movement technique.
Xia Feng was happy at her progress and appeared behind her, catching her by the shoulder.
"Eh!?" Xia Ling was startled, "Oh! It's gege!"
"Look! I'm so fast hahaha!!!" She laughed cheerfully and left afterimages in the room.
"Alright, alright. It's good that you're already at the entry level of the technique but don't get ahead of yourself now." He chided gently, feeling fond of the young girl.
It's good.
It wasn't a counterfeit Nine Yin Body again.
He was actually expecting to return to see a puddle of blood and another failed journey.
What a pleasant surprise!
This wasn't the first time he had gone to search for the Nine Yin Body. Thousands of attempts went futile before he finally arrived here.
He had found numerous 'Nine Yin Physiques' in the past few millennia. But every single one of them after practicing the specialised techniques would die due to the restrictions.
Without the genuine Nine Yin Physique practicing these techniques would only result in death due to an overload of Cold Qi in specific parts of the body making the body burst from within.
A Deceptive Physique practicing the Death Steps would die with its lower half gone.
If practicing the Spirit Sword first they would become braindead and if the Ghostly Yin Palm was cultivated the upper body would burst open.
The Deceptive Physiques could only mimic the cultivation style of the Nine Yin Physique.
It wasn't like he was lucky enough to find the Nine Yin Body on his first try.
Or rather at his height, things like Karma and Luck no longer mattered. No action was accidental, and no will was coincidental.
Everything was decided, everything was predetermined.
The faint thread of fate, it was yours to weave how you like.
The Heavens could do it's best to stall him.
But it was futile.
Too bad, a desperate struggle could only take it so far.
However, he was interested in the individual who created these deceptive physiques, making him run around for so long.
He stopped the speedy Xia Ling.
"Be prepared we don't have a lot of time left."
Hearing this Xia Ling froze, she sensed the seriousness in his voice.
"Can you please tell me what's going on?"
Xia Feng didn't answer.
Yet to his surprise, Xia Ling said something that made his expression turn sombre.
"Are you a reincarnation of some bigshot gege or maybe you regained the memories of your past life?"
The moment she said this the space around them froze and Xia Feng flashed to Xia Ling's side before grabbing her head.
He performed a soul search.
The moment he found something suspicious he would kill her.
Completion of Qi Gathering?
Insignificant.
It was best if he could have the Nine Yin Physique holder cultivate naturally but he could work without it, despite the trouble it would cause.
Yet after thoroughly checking her memories his lips twitched.
He found out that she had read several novels with somewhat similar situations to his.
'This Young Woman is a Reborn Goddess?'
'The Cold Ceo is a Fallen Immortal?'
'This Life Will Be Different?'
These were the names of some of the novels she had read. Shaking his head Xia Feng returned to his original position and looked at Xia Ling who returned to her senses.
"Did something happen just now gege?" She looked confused. "Ah, you didn't answer my question!"
"I am." Said Xia Feng and Xia Ling was shocked!
She jumped to his side and exclaimed, "So what were you Gege!? Some Immortal Venerable? Or maybe the most talented genius that fell due to the Age of Dharma Ending? Or wait wait! Were you betrayed during your tribulation by your lover!?"
Her eyes were sparkling and Xia Feng couldn't help but chuckle.
"Nothing special. Just an untalented cultivator gaining another life. Nothing but canon fodder."
Canon fodder.
It was an interesting term from the memories of the novels he just gained from Xia Ling's mind.
"What? How boring!" Xia Ling was instantly disappointed but she slapped her head and instantly looked at Xia Feng.
Seeing he wasn't sad she heaved a sigh of relief.
Wasn't she making fun of her previous life by acting like this? She needed to be careful with her words.
So what if he had his past memories or something? He was still her gege! That was something that wouldn't change!
If he weren't her gege why would he suddenly start teaching her about cultivation and even go ahead and do so much for her?
From the novels she read Immortals were completely cold beings that regarded the life and death of mortals as insignificant. Only the protagonists were different!
Wait!
Wasn't Xia Feng the protagonist of this story then!?
And by that logic wasn't she the female lead!?
'Wait, that would be taboo!' She shook her face with an embarrassed blush and seemed curious, 'Wait will I be killed by someone, fueling his growth or something?'
Xia Ling thought of this and a chill went down her spine as she glanced at the pondering Xia Feng. She shook her head, there was no need to be delusional.
What novels? What books?
This was reality.
"Hey Gege, where did you come from? Were you living on Earth or somewhere else?"
"A Cultivation Realm," Xia Feng stopped pondering and decided to pamper Xia Ling.
Though things had become a bit complicated with the Divination Celestial's situation he was still in a good mood.
"What was it like, to live in that cultivation realm I mean."
"It was peaceful. Low-level cultivators like me, there weren't people disturbing us. There would be occasional fights for opportunities but everyone mostly did their own thing. Everyone cultivated through the Dao and everyone's Dao was different."
Though she felt confused by the last line Xia Ling felt like it wasn't as thrilling as she imagined.
"C'mon tell me about something major! Something world-threatening! Like some Demonic Emperor trying to kill everyone or the Immortal Sects suppressing the mortals only for a hero to rise."
Xia Feng had to say, her useless imagination was quite creative.
"Well, there was something like that. Being a low-level cultivator I don't know all the details but all the high-level cultivators were involved in a certain 'Heaven Refining War'. It's said that if not for the threat of the Celestial Realm all the cultivators would've fought till extinction."
"Heaven Refining War... It sounds so cool, so domineering..." Xia Ling once again entered a dreamlike state.
Imagining a million cultivators fighting against each other, her eyes gleamed.
The chaos, the bloodshed, and the reason behind the war... It all fascinated her immensely.
"But gege... What was the Heaven Refining War about?"
