{Chapter 28} They are also there
🕑 Added 2025-10-01 12:43:02 +0000 UTCThe post-battle cleanup of the outer city defense war ended quickly.
The army gained a brief moment to catch their breath and regroup.
Kaelis found herself with free time once again.
And during this short respite, Kaelis was shocked to discover that her spiritual capacity limit had experienced a leap-like improvement!
She now had a summoning limit of two hundred and fifty points!
After repeated testing through the night, Kaelis confirmed this fact.
Kaelis used a sparrow as the standard for one point. Now, with just a wave of her hands, she could summon over two hundred sparrows... so densely packed in the air, it seemed as if some monstrous creature was attacking.
There had been no warning, no sensation at all... it just... suddenly increased.
Kaelis remained astonished for a long time, and later had a thorough chat with Seren.
After several conversations, Kaelis confirmed it.
She had now broken through to the third stage Ascender!
As for the reason... that was hard to determine.
Kaelis had always been diligently meditating, and combined with the terrifying monster she had forcefully summoned not long ago, her breakthrough seemed natural... simply the accumulation of effort, plus one extreme exertion, pushing Kaelis past her original limits.
Now, she could summon some small fantasy creatures!
“Blood Raven... huh?”
Looking at the raven standing quietly beside her, nearly as tall as her waist, with pitch-black feathers and blood-red eyes, Kaelis was surprised.
She waved her hand, and the creature instantly dissolved into red mist, rising into the sky, only to vanish moments later.
Summoning this Blood Raven consumed one hundred and fifty points of spiritual capacity, half again as much as a tiger!
But the high cost brought high power.
After a simple test arrangement, Kaelis confirmed that within its summoning duration, it could at least single-handedly kill a stage-two Ascender!
And that wasn't even its limit...
Moreover, the duration of Kaelis's ordinary creations had also been greatly extended.
Now, even ink-drawn creatures could last up to half a minute.
Kaelis's overall capabilities had improved hugely!
This excited Kaelis beyond words.
But after that joy came sadness.
Her gains from ordinary meditation had also decreased.
Previously, after meditating around ten times, Kaelis would gain a small improvement. But after breaking through to the third stage, this progress had noticeably slowed...
This once left Kaelis somewhat troubled.
But thinking carefully, Kaelis really had nothing to complain about.
After all, the third stage Ascender was the peak most untalented people could reach after a lifetime of training. Kaelis, from the moment she learned it to now, hadn't even been three weeks, yet she had already reached this level, her speed was already astonishing.
Without any mistakes, if Kaelis just settled down and meditated quietly for over a month, she could officially become a Warrior...
Reaching the Warrior rank in just two months, this alone would be enough to shock the entire world!
At that time, Kaelis's identity will undergo a complete transformation.
But all that was for the future. Right now, Kaelis was more concerned about other matters.
“I didn't expect... the one waved the flag and shouted... was really you.”
Arriving at the 89th Company, Kaelis finally met the woman she wanted to see.
Remi.
After leaving the academy, she had also followed history and joined this battlefield.
Since she had dropped out of the military academy, Remi started this time as an ordinary soldier. But even with such a humble beginning, her combat ability remained undeniable. After several battle merits, and with the centurion of her unit dying unexpectedly, she was exceptionally promoted to centurion!
This speed, compared to Kaelis's, was no less impressive.
“But not as high as yours... you're already a Battalion Commander.”
Seeing Kaelis's slightly surprised expression, Remi seemed quite satisfied.
She smiled, then shook her head slightly.
“Just luck.”
The tiny Kaelis humbly replied, but her proud little expression made Remi almost unable to resist the urge to pinch her adorable little face.
But considering Kaelis's current status was quite unusual, and with Seren standing nearby, she restrained herself, smiling at Kaelis instead.
“So... did you come here for something? Or did you just want to see me?”
“Well...”
Kaelis frowned slightly, looking troubled.
“There's nothing awkward, just say it directly.”
Remi was as generous as always, and Kaelis scratched her head.
“I actually planned to have you join my subordinates...”
“Hmm?”
“Because you're really strong.”
Remi's strength was unquestionable. Kaelis had already confirmed this numerous times in many ways, which was why she wanted to recruit her.
If Remi was still just a regular soldier or a squad leader, Kaelis could easily ask her to transfer to her own side... with her on board, Kaelis would have even more confidence in surviving fifty days.
But... if Remi was also a centurion...
Then it would be difficult.
It wasn't just about status; more important... She and Remi didn't have an especially close relationship. Why should Remi give up her centurion status to join Kaelis?
Yes, Kaelis was a Battalion Commander, and if Remi joined her, she could retain her original status. But... the number of troops she'd command would be reduced.
At most, Kaelis could make her a squad leader, while staying here, she could at least command a hundred people.
Under any circumstances, she had no reason to join Kaelis.
“This...”
Hearing Kaelis's words, Remi understood why Kaelis had seemed so awkward just now. She shrugged helplessly, indicating refusal.
“This probably won't work.”
“I see…” Kaelis lowered her brows, somewhat disappointed.
But Remi shook her head.
“It's not because of my current centurion status... I don't really care about that. Normally, if you call me, I'd definitely join you. It's just that right now...”
Remi hesitated for a moment, finding it hard to explain her current situation.
But Kaelis suddenly realized.
Calculating the time, now... it seemed about right...
Kaelis suddenly leaned closer, but Remi jumped in fright, immediately stepping back, instinctively covering her ears.
Clearly, she still hadn't recovered from the aftereffects of that competition... The whisper of such a beautiful person was simply too much for ordinary people to bear.
Then, seeing Kaelis's slightly strange expression, Remi realized she had overreacted. Glancing at Seren, whose expression looked peculiar, she awkwardly smiled and shook her head, then leaned her ear closer again.
Only then did Kaelis lean in and whisper.
“The Azalea Squad?”
“...They approached you too?”
Remi looked surprised, but after thinking, it made sense.
Kaelis's abilities were indeed not bad.
“...Just some basic knowledge.”
Kaelis shook her head slightly.
She had joined the Azalea Squad a few times ago because she felt that remaining an ordinary soldier was too dangerous. Although they carried out special missions, at least her duties involved much less combat.
But now it is different. She was a centurion, commanding over a hundred men. Not saying it was very safe, but there was no way she'd have to join the Azalea Squad.
So this time, she hadn't proactively contacted them... and they hadn't approached her either.
“I see...”
Remi nodded, then looked at Kaelis.
“Since you know, then it's fine. Anyway, they approached me, and I'm indeed planning to join. I probably won't be able to keep my centurion status, so... I'm sorry, Kaelis, I really have something I want to do.”
“Alright.”
Kaelis nodded, not showing much dissatisfaction.
Kaelis wasn't so narcissistic as to think the world revolved around her. Since Remi had already made her choice, Kaelis could only shake her head. After a brief exchange, she prepared to leave.
But just as she was about to depart, Remi suddenly spoke.
“There's one more thing... I think you should know.”
“Hmm?”
Kaelis paused, and Remi lowered her head, her gaze serious.
"Do you remember those two daughters of viscounts who bribed me to kill you?
They... are now in the army as well..."
