AP, I still recall when you discouraged Victor from joining the Navy. Great move. About 11 years ago just before I retired from the military, I began to tell young people, "if you want to join the military, go in, get what you are going in there to get, and leave on your terms". At that point I was seeing how corrupt it was becoming to the point that leadership was lacking even in the backbone of the Navy (senior enlisted leadership). Over the past 2 to 3 years I tell young people, "don't join period". Your rights are stripped away and you become an indentured servant to fight rich men's wars.
