My step father retired from the railroad along with several of his friends/coworkers when management got really bad about 12 years ago. They were hiring kids right out of college to be managers - they had no idea how the rail system worked and were thrust into jobs that they should have not been put into. But, my step father and mom are very happy since he retired. His retirement is as much as what he was earning while he was working.
