Late night with the devil was fun.

1. You were wondering about the roots of the j-horror crawl, and my personal hot take is that it can be traced back to the M.R. James short story titled "The Mezzotint," which hints at some key ideas that would emerge in modern classics like Ringu. James' influence on the evolution of horror in the 20th/21st centuries is kind of underrated, IMO. 2. Regarding parallels between jinn and fairy lore, if you haven't seen the Welsh horror movie The Feast from 2021, I highly recommend it. It touches on ecology, capitalism, etc. Cool stuff! I dragged my sister to the drive in at like 2 am a couple weeks ago to try and see the first omen and for some satanic reason the movie wasn’t playing (I still haven’t seen it, incidentally) SO we tried to watch late night with the devil but it was unwatchable. Totally derivative, feels ai generated, etc.
