Yeah I got big Judge Holden (Blood Meridian) vibes as there's a scene in the book in which the character (essentially the devil or some incarnate evil) describes how he seeks to achieve knowledge of all things on the earth, because to know all of some-thing is essentially to have power over the thing itself. Considering a large chunk of the book is about scalp collecting in the US Southwest, well ehh...like, I'm a Canuck and our country has a horrible history of learning all about certain groups and their culture so we can more effectively pacify them and steal their art for rich Presbyterian psychos to accumulate in vaults, occasionally galleries, and homes that look like galleries.

As someone who shares a middle name with Harry E. Smith (no relation, however) and is also from Portland, an extremely sus place, this episode is hittin'. Good shit!

I guess he was friends with bill Holm who is still a pretty well respected authority on form line even by indigenous people in the PNW, but there’s no way that dude was fluent in kwak’wala and lushootseed, and i doubt he got permission to record big house music from swinomish people if he made the recordings at all
