imo what makes this movie great is the pacing, the beautiful scenery, the scumbaggery, the cig smoking, etc. This is NOT a movie you go see for the thought provoking plot, the depth of character, making sure the writers cross all their T’s and dot all their I’s. To take a fine tooth comb to this movie is, imo, to misunderstand completely what it’s trying to do. You go for the shtick, not the taught, fundamentally sound script writing/acting. Come on Jeff and Dave. This is a popcorn B movie and if you go into it w that mind frame it delivers on all fronts.

They present Donnie in the first movie as a guy who is in charge of his surroundings at all time, and no one has any idea…in this one he‘s in charge of fuck all.

* * * SPOILER ALERT * * * An easier fix for this movie is just to have the police drive away with Donnie and the crew until they’re out of sight and then turn into a parking structure and let them go because Donnie saw this coming a mile off and paid them off in advance.

Thank you kindly! Our little sister is on my watchlist

It's not a movie it's a show (just like the amazing Makanai last year, also from Kore-eda), and the title is Asura. I preferred Makanai, but it's still very good and recalls earlier Kore-eda like Still Walking or Our Little Sister

Speaking of Claes Bang, I urge you to check out The Square – Ruben Östlund's film from 2017. Bang is spectacular in it!

I'm going to date myself terribly, but I saw Jamiroquai back in the 90s here in the US, and the singer, Jay Kay, said in between songs that he loved coming to America because we have water with the brand name Crystal Geyser. He explained how back home in the UK that everyone calls each other "geezer", and if someone is "crystal" it is very complimentary. So every time he had a bottle of Crystal Geyser water he felt like he was receiving a huge compliment 😂

Jeff needs a nap.

So sorry to hear about David Lynch's passing. May he rest in peace ♥️🙏🏽

I have a fun game for the hosts (and anyone else) to play. I just saw a trailer for the new Jason Statham movie called A Working Man, and I'm willing to bet all three hosts could predict with 100% accuracy the entire plot of the movie from just the very first image at the start of the trailer. The trailer starts with Statham on a construction site while wearing a hard hat. It's crazy, but that's enough to know with complete accuracy what the movie is about. Try it out for yourself, click on the trailer and pause it one second in then guess the premise of the movie and I guarantee you'll get it 100% correct 😂 https://youtu.be/zTbgNC42Ops

Letterboxd already let me down :(

IMDb might be quicker mate

I will have you gentlemen know, earlier this week I had to make a court appearance to testify about a thing...when I arrived, I thought to myself "I'm going to raw dog this wait," just because of Jeff and Dave.

What was the name of the Shoplifters director new film?

Jay Wood

Just shouting out the director Adam Elliot for Jeff, an Australian known for stop motion. He released Memoir of a snail- and he (and his team) are fantastic! All three films are just phenomenal!

I don't see how years can have passed between DOT1 and 2 when he's served with divorce complaint in the first and we see his divorce finalized (with a scene literally in Family Law Court) in the second. It doesn't look like Gerry Butler's marriage was so complicated that the divorce would drag on for years. Come on now. In the world of these films, it's a maximum of 2 years between events of first and second. Maximum.

You can tell when the Filmcast fans have no interest in the movie being reviewed by the fact that there are no comments about the movie being reviewed lol.

I hate to be a pedant (JK I love it) but the Galaxy Quest 4K is a native 4K scan, not an upscale. By Grabthar's Hammer!

Iain Clarke

W&G is very not-London!

On geezer - Dave and Jeff are both right. In English, geezer implies Old, but in an affectionate way. In London-ish, it is just man. Like Diamond Geezer is "top bloke". I'm sure Guy Ritchie uses it liberally.

Garry L

I’m a Brit and co-sign the above.

The copy of A Bittersweet Life Dave and Devindra are talking about is the 4K disc from Second Sight Films. They’re a UK distributor and their transfers and special features are top of the line. 99% of 4Ks are region-free so maybe that’s why it was available on Amazon? Anyway I’d recommend their 4K versions of The Witch and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

ak

In Kermode & Mayo reviews of Guy Ritchie films I’ve heard them described as “geezer” as in very man-ish/bro etc

Peter Meilleur

Geezer Butler (bass player for Black Sabbath) gained the nickname when he was a kid

Mark Griffith

It was so long - I forgot the question. Need to repeat the question for the Habenero answer.

Cardassian Vexillology

I was ready to write that the sci fi invisible shield was dumb but it's a real thing lol

Cameron S

“Geezer” is definitely used for men of all ages in the UK. It’s similar to “guy.” Also sometimes has a positive connotation, saying a guy is good - “yeah he’s sound, he’s a geezer.” Source - many years lived in the UK

Brian

It’s been updated in Apple Podcasts!

I've had a few Patreon RSS feed podcast not show up in the past few days, had to listen on the Patreon app, so it's not just this pod.
