🕑 Added 2024-09-27 17:06:57 +0000 UTCThe Filmcast: After Dark is the bonus show where we talk about a variety of random topics that didn't make it into the main podcast - including your questions and what's going on in our lives.
In this episode, David, Devindra, and Jeff remember Maggie Smith, discuss their feelings on James Cameron's involvement with AI and ponder a future where AI creates podcasts.

The entire discussion about the AI-Generated was fascinating. And scary. I love how Jeff des not hold back on how he feels.

It is not just you!
Nancy Wilson
The AI podcast was frightening.

You guys got like a 10+ year bond with many of your fans. AI can’t replace that. You guys are fine. I however have recently got into voice over which feels real dumb right about now.

That thing Dave said about being thankfull for being alive for the time period where people truly cared about making art kinda set my existencial dread spiraling. At the same time I found it uplifting and beautiful, the duality of man!

Can we get the guys to give an apple vision update on the next after dark? Are they still using it? So curious

I’ve done improv on and off over the past 20 years, heavily for the past 5, and something I’ve come to realize as AI permeates the produced content we consume is that live performances - music, plays, magic, sports - are going to become much more sought after for their undeniable humanistic qualities. Real people doing real things that you can see with your own eyes. What I love about how improv does this is that not only is the acting live but the writing, directing, and editing too. Jeff, I think you’ll be fine, and I’d love to put on a duo Harold with you for the masses who demand it.

Is it just me that I enjoy The Filmcast Afterdark the most when the hosts aren't talking about movies? :)

Perfect Blue immediately came to mind when Devindra mentioned celebrity

I'm a visual artist and not a huge fan of generative AI, but ss to Stable diffusion, They at least have agreed to opt-out policy for ingested images. https://haveibeentrained.com/ Also they're not trying to rejuvenate three mile island nuclear plant to power their AI servers. So... There are worse ones out there.

@jeff and the crew: I’m with you to the end of the line. Your voices and thoughts are something I look forward to every week. No AI could ever replace that. ❤️

Can’t wait to listen to Bill T’s movie review podcast: “Bill T Pleasures”

As far as the James Cameron-AI thing goes, I just have a hard time believing that change can come from the inside of an organization. It seems to me that organizations, whether there big or small companies or governments, are more likely to change the people within then than vice versa. And I fully admit this is just my gut feeling, so maybe facts will prove me wrong. That would certainly be lovely.

Holy shit that notebook LM thing is wild!!

Great episode! Can we normalize giving what the acronym is before using the acronym? Thank youuuuuuuu!

Friday release of the afterdark definitely feels different than the Thursday release date. Couldn’t explain why, but it is.

I would caution concern about AI podcasting. If we only cared about the review, we wouldn’t listen to a podcast. Podcasts are about the human connection between the speaker and listener and the journey over time sharing the journey together. AI can’t replace that

Side note: Is Jeff aware season 2 of Colin from Accounts is now streaming?

That AI generated podcast was terrifying. Like a horror movie where you're walking alone down a road and you see a perfect copy of yourself walking towards you.

So the movie studios will disseminate positive reviews written by gig level human employees that the AIs will scrape and then those will get fed into the podcast machine for broadcast to the masses. The future is going to be wack.

I didn’t think you would record this week - thanks for making it work! 💙
