I watched Kinds of Kindness in an open air cinema in Berlin and almost half of the people walked out of the movie halfway in. They wanted to see a feel good movie while being outside and got this instead. I loved it.

I am a high School film teacher at the American School of Paris. My school offers a pre-College level film course (International Baccalaureate) where students are learning filmmaking theory, history and production with the intention to apply to top film schools like USC, NYU, Chapman. Every beginning of academic year I ask my students how many films they watch per month. I can tell you that rarely I have more than one student there watch more than two films per month, keep in mind that those students are supposed to be the cinephile ones. In my regular elective semester filmmaking course I always ask them what was the best film they watch during the summer and many times I have like easily 50% of my students simply saying that they haven't watched a single film or TV series throughout their two months of summer vacation. About the Keanu Reeves situation I think what I can site as reason of the not knowing his name is not because they don't know John week or matrix or those films but they simply don't care to know the name of the actors anymore like we did when we were their age. Don't get me started with name of directors. I show pictures key figures like Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese and I hear crickets in my class when I ask who are they.

I count myself very lucky to have kids that enjoy movies. My 12 year old son likes to joke that Keanu and Adam Driver are the same person because of their Haircuts. He is currently on a Sammo Hung kick choosing to watch Close Encounters Of The Spooky Kind from my collection. He's done black and white films and has no issue with subtitles. Just saying this to both show off 😅 and say it's not all lost.

I saw it in theaters and was mostly entertained (some parts were absolutely hilarious). But yeah, I could easily see watching it at home and instead treating it almost like 3 shorter episodes rather than one long movie, as the three segments are each fully self contained.
