Tell Jeff to stop being such a stuck up lame. Trap was fun, riveting, and just a joy ride. I do have a knack for suspending my disbelief to an incredible amount because I tend to just allow movies to do their things and don’t allow my thoughts to intrude on my enjoyment of them in the moment. Is it perfect no. Is it fun and entertaining? Heck yes. Get over it.

I didn't see Borderlands (and neither did anyone else apparently, way to have your finger on the pulse of the cultural zeitgeist with that one, fellas lol), but I did see Cuckoo and was pretty underwhelmed by it. Did others love it? I didn't think it was bad, it just wasn't nearly as good as I was hoping for.

It was very amusing hearing Dave twist himself into knots trying to come up with absurd explanations for all the ridiculous scenarios and coincidences in this movie, and then hearing him say he didn't like Signs. Let me guess, he didn't like Signs cause "why would aliens who are burned by water go to a planet that's mostly water?!" 😂

Dave said that Harrison Ford never played a bad guy. He may have just been kidding about that, but he did play bad guys on very rare occasions, specifically in It Lies Beneath and The Mosquito Coast.

It would also be great if he would try to refrain from shrieking whenever he gets excited. His shrill voice just cuts through me like glass when he gets all amped up and starts shrieking. I've been having to listen with my fingers on the volume knob for years because of it. When he starts getting worked up, I know to just crank the volume way down.

Sure, but Jeff is also often very logic driven which some movies just don't operate under. It's why he's always talking about rules when it comes to certain genres.

I feel like in a couple of years, this movie will absolutely SLAY in midnight showings like "The Room" or "Showgirls" *Every time Hayley Mills is on screen, people yell out "THE PARENT TRAP, GET IT?!" *People mockingly dance in the theater to "Lady Raven" songs. Maybe even come in wearing "Lady Raven" fan clothes * When M Night appears for his cameo, people yell out "M NIGHT!" *Every time Jonathan Langdon (Jamie)'s character does anything, we all yell out "DON'T DO IT" *And just generally talking crap about the movie while the movie is playing, including the pie, shirtless Hartnett, walking by cops for the coffee, the kids bike at the end, Lady Raven talking her to fans in the bathroom instead of calling the police/FBI, escaping from a limo surrounded by people without opening any door or window, etc, etc. *And laughing at the best scene in the movie, the mid-credit scene. It was hilarious! It's going to be a midnight laugh-at-it CLASSIC lol.

I don’t necessarily disagree with your distinction. But I think “so bad it’s good” is still not the right label for something like Trap. It knows it’s campy and is in on its own joke is my read. I don’t think Shyamalan wrote this movie with the intention of it being gritty and grounded. I laughed at the audacity of it and I think those were intentional laughs.

I think there’s a big difference between the heightened stylization of someone like Wes Anderson or Yorgos Lanthimos and what Shyamalan does. In the former cases their films are stylized in form and design, there are signifiers beyond the dialogue of the deliberate unreality of the world. Shyamalan does not do this, his films generally have a naturalistic or “grounded” approach to the storytelling but the characters speak and behave bizarrely and illogically which does not feel related to the overall style. If it *is* deliberate it does not feel purposeful or thematically connected, it just clashes and becomes risible. If it’s deliberate, it’s not done well. But - it’s great that you enjoy it! Liking something is always much more fun.

Devindra respectfully needs to move back from the mic about 8 inches. He’s louder in the mix in general and then he’s often yelling and overloading his preamp… at some points downright unpleasant sonics

Thank you, Jeff for being the sense of reason in the room. I am the biggest M Night defender, but this is just so bad it’s beyond campy. Dialogue the circumstances that make no sense are not based in any reality. The twists aren’t really twist. This was a horrible experience and didn’t even worse film

Based on the spirited debate in this episode, I decided to go see TRAP for myself today. I side mostly with Jeff on this one (unusual for me), in that I found the movie so bad that it's...just BAD. And yet, the movie has a few pleasures worth citing: it's great to see Josh Hartnett in good form, and his performance nearly made me overlook the movie's more batshit-crazy elements. And TRAP does allow us to see Hartnett take off his shirt in the ludicrous "let's have a piece of pie before you butcher me" scene; and then my favorite moment in the movie, seeing the elderly (yet beautiful) Hayley Mills expertly wield a laser-taser sort of weapon thingy near the end. I am left with a couple of questions, though, that you guys didn't get to. WHY does Hartnett take off his shirt in the kitchen scene (other than allowing us to ogle his still-impressive torso)? And HOW does he get the shirt back on when he's finally led into the back of the police transport vehicle? Did Hayley Mills say "Well, I know he butchered 8 people and gouged out the eyes of a police officer, but let's allow the poor guy to put his shirt back on"?? Like so many threads that run haphazardly through this movie and are left dangling, I suspect we'll never know. Thank you for the prompt to have this, um, unique experience of a movie today. --CDMatthew in Boston

I disagree that the movie is bad. I think the movie isn’t going for realism and that rubs people the wrong way. It’s much more like a giallo film or like Snake Eyes. Wackiness is the point.

I think the movie was OK, but I agree with Jeff's flaws 100%. After Inside Out 2, I HAVE to wonder if anyone on the show saw the mid-credit scene, which was not mentioned in the episode. I think that scene is the BEST scene of the movie, it had me dying, no pun intended! :)
