I totally agreed with Dave's take on this movie being inferior to the original. The thing the original had that this one was somewhat lacking was that first movie was just a lot of fun. That group of characters was simply enjoyable to be with, so much so that it was almost like a hang out movie interrupted by tornado action in between. This movie was still somewhat fun, but less so because the main character was so traumatized, much more so than Helen Hunt's character was in the original. I did enjoy Twisters, but Jeff and Devindra really give the original movie short shrift, IMO.

To be fair Jeff, I've been to theaters that have basements. Although also to be fair, these are multiplexes that have theaters in the basement.

Totally agree that this is a better film than the original in every way! David’s take was hard to comprehend, but then again I found PSH in the original to be insufferable and was hoping he’d get taken by a tornado for the whole runtime. And, erm, the effects in the original have aged horribly, not sure how David saw this as being comparable! Also, sad to see the weird climate change deniers on this patreon!

Also thought it was very funny that their definition of "helping" the townsfolks after the tornado was handing over two binders and calling it a day.

I think The Acolyte has great action. But all my problems with it come down two words: character motivation. Why does anyone on that show, down Basil the sniffer squirrel thing, do what they do in the story? I have watched the entire series and I do not know.

Thank you for the comment. I know nothing about tornadoes, but after a quick read of several news articles on the subject, your main point seems in line with scientific consensus, and while climate change might contribute in other areas, you did not deserve the criticism that occurred here. We can all believe in man made climate change, and still discuss things in a civilized manner, and evidence-based manner. I might be wrong in my interpretation, and if so, I am open to learn.

Don’t want to sound harsh, cause I love all the guys opinions, but was sad that I enjoyed twisters, and it seemed like 2/3rds of the guys did also, so it’s always a bummer when it spends a lot of time pulling apart the flaws. Excited for D&W movie

Oh, there’s a study? So what. The overwhelming consensus of climate scientists is that extreme weather events are increasing and human-caused climate change is a significant contributing factor. This is the official stance of NOAA and the American Meteorological Society. I quickly found multiple studies claiming an increase in large tornado outbreaks in the US. And those outbreaks contain larger tornadoes, in greater numbers and greater geographic density (closer together), than decades ago. Even in the 1990s there were peer-reviewed studies concluding that cigarettes were not harmful, long after we knew they caused cancer. (Guess what, those studies were funded by tobacco companies.) So forgive me if I take your one study with a mountain-sized grain of salt. Siding with overwhelming scientific consensus cannot fairly be called a bias. I think the earth is round, am I “biased”? (Please don’t actually answer that lol)

I don’t believe the frequency of tornadoes has been impacted… not according to the studies I’ve read and the life I’ve lived. I read scientific studies - it appears you repeat talking points. Regardless - i wish you well in life… and whenever you venture out of mom’s basement in whatever municipality you live in, i hope the real world treats you well. Adios! And finally to the film cast crew - love you guys. Always have. I love all of your perspectives and listen to you weekly. I suppose i really hit a nerve with Stranger - but knowing the three of you - I suppose you welcome cordial counter points and fact-based debates. I had a feeling you'd sheepishly back away if called out, and would try to hide behind this "I just quoted a study" stuff. You probably could get away with that if you hadn't whined that as a paying customer you shouldn't have to listen to "bias" with subjects like climate change. Sorry, there is no bias when just stating scientific facts. You're biased if you disagree with those facts for political reasons, but unfortunately there are no "alternative facts". There's only the truth. But hey, now is your chance to prove yourself by just stating that man made climate change is real, it's not a hoax, and that it is causing changes in weather patterns all over the world. We're getting more hurricanes, tornadoes and droughts from climate change, and the science 100% backs this up. Go ahead and chime in with your agreement or else just admit you're a climate change denier who is upset that you pay money to podcasters who embrace science and get annoyed when you're reminded that not everyone has the same anti-science biases that you do. It's your choice.

Read my comment again friend… i provide actual published scientific research indicating that frequency of tornadoes has not increased in recent years, and perhaps Jeff’s claims are recency bias with news picking up stories about tornadoes this past spring. If you, Jeff, Dave, or Devindra have any scientific paper to read about the frequency of tornadoes and its relation to climate change (which I don’t deny is occurring) please share it. I’m open to learn. Otherwise, keep making unfounded claims and follow the other sheep. I think Jeff mentioned in the Twister afterdark episode that it’s strange that we have days where multiple tornadoes occur. Well, this is just a clear lack of understanding. Ask any native of states in Tornado Alley or the Southeast… it’s usually not just one tornado. Usually there are days with a high number of tornadoes. There were massive outbreaks throughout every decade that I have been alive. This is not unusual for severe weather. So again - share the specific scientific research you are referencing or just move on.

There are many theaters that have basement screens. There’s one right down the street from me in North Hollywood. This is another The Creator situation where Jeff and Dave (instead of Devindra) must have watched a different movie than I saw. Almost every point brought up is addressed by and in the film, itself.

It's sad when people think that discussing the effects of climate change shows "bias" when all they are doing is just reflecting what the scientific community all agrees is what is happening. Honestly it's bias to try to deny what science is telling us, because whatever your motivation is for ignoring the science, it's clearly not based in reality. Hopefully everyone enjoys this hot summer we're having, as this will be one of the coldest ones we ever experience again for the rest of our lives. At least, that's what the science tells us.

There was zero chemistry between Anthony Ramos and Daisy Edgar-Jones, but I have to back up Devindra in that they did TRY to lay the groundwork for that moment later in the film. He very clearly was crushing on her HARD for the majority of the movie imo.

Why do you guys insist that climate change is causing more frequent tornadoes? What study are you referencing? There is at least one study published in npj Climate and Atmospheric Science (Gensini and Brooks) which indicates tornado frequency has been relatively constant over time. I live in Alabama, a part of the country known as Dixie Alley, as tornadoes also frequent Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, and Georgia. Tornado season is between November - May… it has been like this my whole life (40+ years). Just because Devindra is experiencing tornadoes for the first time since moving to Georgia doesn’t mean that they are all of the sudden happening more frequently. Or just because you see more stories about tornadoes in the news doesn’t mean they are happening more frequently. Love your podcast… been a listener for many years, and a Patreon donor for maybe a year. Just wish bias would be checked from time to time. Cheers fellas! Did not care for this remake. I didn’t think anyone had as much chemistry as the original show : Paxton, Hunt - AND - Phiip Seymour Hoffman. I thought it got better when it left the exact copy behind and followed Daisy’s character into her Mom’s life.
