Man, I really wish the gang had dedicated a main review to Maxxxine. I'm late to the party but I just watched it and absolutely loved it! I wish I could hear some of David's complaints more in-depth with spoilers because, oh my god, I thought this was far and away the best of the X Trilogy.

Guys, I just listened to this…the movie clearly explains WHY the mom gets the deal. Nic Cage literally explains it when he’s being detained. You either kill the whole family or make a deal with the devil. THAT IS THE CHOICE. I assume you guys couldn’t hear it all too well because of his speech, but fellas!

I only worked on one portion of it, but they definitely did a great job building mystery and intrigue. The theatrical trailer was an excellent starting place.

Man, you guys absolutely killed it with this movie. It's been a long time since there's been a media/ad campaign for a film that was this effective. I almost wonder if you guys were too effective, as it almost seems like some people had their expectations set too high by the marketing campaign lol

I sometimes wonder what causes the hosts to all miss fairly explicit details in movies like that. I don't know if they're distracted taking notes or making repeated trips to the bathroom, but every now and then they all seem to miss something that's pretty well spelled out in the film. Usually at least one of them is able to correct the other two, but sometimes it's like "how did they all miss this detail?"

I think the performance pretty clearly indicated that she was at least somewhat autistic, which fits into the Will Graham FBI agent mold

Three things - 1. Finally a mention of one of my favourite films this century, Spartan. Thank you! 2. Maika Monroe’s sheepish, mumbling character was never believable for one second as someone who could’ve actually qualified for and been employed by the FBI. 3. Didn’t she decipher the code because Longlegs literally gave her at least half the alphabet on the card he left in her house? Psychic powers not required at that point

Dave doesn’t like when actors look like the character they are portraying? Well THIS Dave (me) hates when Hollywood casts actors that look nothing like the character. Hollywood is like who is the most famous person we can shove into in this role instead of who can look and act like this character best. It annoys me. Like Tom Holland as Nathan Drake. Zero resemblance to the character. One I DID like was Evan Peters as Jeffrey Dahmer. All casting directors should strive to find an actor that looks that much like the person they are portraying.

Ed O'Neill's dramatic turn in ABC's Dragnet (later re-titled as L.A. Dragnet) in 2003 was great ...but funny enough his voiceover is similar to his deadpan delivery of his Wayne's World character 😅 while it's not available anywhere streaming or vod, someone uploaded the first season to YouTube. I think it's worth a watch. Ethan Emnry did a good job as his partner too though he left during season2.

Totally agree with Jeff on this one. My main thought walking out of the movie was “What was the point of all that? What was this movie even about?” And I was ultimately left feeling like Oz really couldn’t decide what kind of movie he wanted to make

In regards to the confusions over the ending, the whole movie is about longlegs and the mom disrupting and ending family units, Lee is the biggest victim because she forced herself to believe they were normal/safe from this fate when the family was cursed all along. Her living is worst case scenario, as the only ever surviving victim was Carrie Anne who spent her life catatonic waiting for the devil to tell her what to do (kill herself).

The mom gets the bargain with Longlegs because there is no Father in the household to corrupt and kill the rest of the family. Longlegs becomes "Daddy Longlegs" by becoming a part of the family unit that self-destructs. He kills himself, the daughter kills the mom, and Lee is damned to burn in hell.

I do not believe for a second David would see another David and think, "Oh this is another version of me that traveled here from a parallel universe." He would go with my parents gave up my twin brother for adoption without telling me way before universe traveling.

I feel like the hosts all got confused by the "psychic" angle of Longlegs and were hung up on that rather than realizing she wasn't psychic, but rather was being controlled and manipulated by a demon (whether it was Satan or something else). Her perceived psychic abilities were what got her assigned to the Longlegs case, which is what the demon wanted, as she was always a major part of it, as this demon had been with her and her family, literally inhabiting her house since she was 8 years old. People have been focusing on comparing this to Se7en and Silence of the Lambs because it's couched as a police procedural about a serial killer, but that's not really what this movie is. This movie reminded me a lot more of films like The Shining or Session 9, which is about a demonic presence of some kind that is preying on certain individuals for its own amusement or as part of some unseen and not at all understood plan. Nic Cage's character was not a mastermind, he was just a puppet like Alicia Witt's character was, just like Maika Monroe's character was, and this evil will just continue on and on. Expecting the specifics of this demon's plans or motivations to be explicitly laid out is silly, and would be totally unsatisfying if they even tried to.

First three episodes you mean. As to Luke Wilson showing up, he does at almost exactly the 2 hour mark, i.e., the start of Episode 3. What Costner tried to do was take a 12 episode TV series, cut it into 4 movies, and release it theatrically and then wanted to release it as a TV series. Bold experiment to try to get theatrical money and TV money. Didn't work, but I appreciate the attempt.

Modern Family ran for 11 seasons and 250 episodes. Married...with Children ran for 11 seasons and 259 episodes. MWC ran longer than MF, so you can't say MF was "longer running." More successful, maybe.

I just kind of shook my head in disbelief when Luke Wilson showed up on screen and I realized they were starting an entirely new storyline that far into the film. I wonder if there was a cut of this film that had “Next time on Horizon” in some western typeface before that montage trailer at the end lol. I was sure I was going to go see part two with such a short gap in between them and having already invested 3 hours, but if they’re pushing it back it might be long enough where I decide to skip it.

Horizon was such a strange movie. Some of the storylines introduced felt like they really were just pilots (like the Luke Wilson one), but others did feel like the first 4 episodes of a show. I really don't know why Costner is releasing these as movies, as this is 100% an ongoing TV show, not a movie series. Even in planned movie series like LOTR, Star Wars or Avatar, there's still a beginning, middle and end of each individual film. This was just like a bunch of setups and nothing else, just a random abrupt ending cause they hit the 3 hour mark.

As far as Longlegs - there's an interview with Oz Perkins on The Big Picture podcast that I would recommend everyone listen to that's seen the film.

I loved Long Legs and thought it was my second favorite film of the year. I was watching it along with the writer/director and his family so hard to know if I was just bias from a hyped crowd. Will have to revisit.
