Do I need to point out that the old /Filmcast theme had "We watch till the last of the credits is done" as the final lyric? My dreams are shattered now that you guys tell me you walk out pre-credits..... Also, Pixar used to have a gag-real during the credits, so end-credits are not unheard of...

I assume you loathe JFK because of the conspiracy stuff? I can understand that but I love JFK for reasons having nothing to do with conspiracy. I think it works on several other levels…as a portrait of obsession, and an exploration of a time period in which Americans lost faith in their government (rightly or wrongly). Even if there was no JFK conspiracy, the feeling that the world is being run by dark powerful forces out of your control is very resonant today, from Snowden to our current crises, and JFK captures this vibe so effectively. And finally, one of the most technically accomplished films ever — with one of the most impressive casts ever assembled. And yes, Sutherland was phenomenal. Great movie

Ghostlight sounds like a movie about a midlife crisis that is actually a positive experience instead of the stereotypical “leave your family” story. It sounds like it was personal to Jeff in a specific way, but also applies to anybody of a similar age that is now thinking about the direction of their life.

Jeff - I have the same distaste for reality TV and tend to favour movies over series as I find myself with less and less time. My wife put Physical 100 on one Friday night and we binged the entire series in a weekend, it's really compelling stuff. Now that I have recommended this you can tell Dave you had someone who wasn't him recommend show 😉. Hope this helps because it really is great stuff.

Omg Jeff I was just thinking while listening to”hmm did Jeff ever take David’s suggestion of Physical 100?”. You need to watch it! I think you will of course love watching these super athletes and how they push their boundaries. But I think you will love what David said previously about how the culture in Korea is different and totally changes how a competition show is filmed compared to here in the states. They remain competitive yet are highly respectful and encouraging of their competition. It is a look at some of the greatness we should all strive to be. I look forward to hearing soon about your reaction to the first episode.

This and Jeff's discussion of MASS are some of the most powerful moments of the hundreds of episodes of this show I've listened to, to me. The raw vulnerability and openness is what this world needs more of, particularly in discussions of art. I was moved to watch MASS, which I loved though it destroyed me, and am now very much looking forward to GHOSTLIGHT and bringing some of Jeff's wonderful perspective to my viewing.

Same. But some movies EARN that sitting through the credits more than others. Prime example: Silence of the Lambs. Great ending credit sequence and score. (A Best Ending Credit Sequece ranking may be called for.)

Haha, nope, completely real. I don't remember how I found out about it, but it's become one of my most used apps. I use it every time I go to the movies. The only issue I've run into is if I see one of the first couple showings of something, there may not be any peetimes yet, as they haven't gotten to view the movie yet. That and the occasional obscure movie, but I'd say 95% of the time, peetimes are available.

Totally here to second this opinion about Don’t Look Now! So many Sutherland performances to savor, but Ordinay People had a profound effect on me, and his bravura monologue in JFK (a movie I otherwise loathe) gives the film a jolt of electricity and suspense…one hangs on his with word! There’s a nifty spy thriller called Eye of the Needle in which he plays—chillingly—a sleeper agent future Nazis in WWII. And then, of course, there’s…Kentucky Fried Movie.

I usually stay for the entire credits unless I start to feel uncomfortable when the staff is hanging by the side impatiently waiting for everyone to leave so they can start cleaning. I also just google X movie + after credit scene to see if there is one or not, though I would imagine that wouldn't be so easy if you're watching the film before it's officially released.

I cried like a child while watching the episode of the bear called Forks. Similar to Jeff’s viewing of ghost light, there was just something about the integrity and the achievement of what the people in that episodewere representing. Hit real deep.

A post credits scene for a “kids” movie should happen after a brief stylized list of the main actors/voice actors. I was the only person in my theater that saw the Inside Out 2 post credits scene because everyone else in the theater were children and their parents…and they bounced pretty quick.

You know, I usually relate most to Jeff on the podcast but Devindra has this new suffer-no-fools bravado that I’m really enjoying. I too, do not give a shit about the after credits scene in a Pixar movie. I just want to get home before the kids fall asleep in the car.

Regarding the after credits app, I have a suggestion for another app that helps with the movie going experience. It's called RunPee and it gives "peetimes" of good times to go use the restroom and not miss anything important in the movie. You get a timer and a vibration reminder on your phone/watch as well as a cue of a line said by a character to tell you when it's time to go. Then they also give a synopsis of what you miss. I've been using it for years. You used to have to buy tokens or watch an ad to get peetimes, but it went donation only a couple years ago. They also give you information on post-credit scenes as well. I'm hoping people try it out and help as it's a small team of people that go see every movie and add the times and it's become a part of my movie watching every time. Highly recommend!

I’m SO GRATEFUL to Jeff for his reflections about Ghostlight, and his reactions resonated strongly with me; I’m also grateful to you guys for allowing Jeff the time and space to find his words and express how he was affected by the movie. I saw the film at Ptown Film Fest and my response was similar to Jeff’s; I truly related, as I’ve done theatre most of my life (despite my “real job” being in tourism and hospitality), and feel a void in my life these days because I haven’t been in a play or musical since before the pandemic, for various reasons. Thank you, Jeff, for articulating something I had a hard time processing myself. Much appreciation to y’all…
