On behalf of sensible Australians everywhere (& though not all sensible, we ARE everywhere - I don't know if you've noticed, but the world is infested with Australians), I wish to apologise to Jeff about the whole Simon Baker storm in a teacup. It seems he unwittingly ran head-on into the phenomenon known down here as The Cultural Cringe. While Australians like to think we should be OK to eat at the grown-up's table, we secretly think maybe we're really only good enough for the kiddie's table. This plays out in discourse with observations such as "...XYZ is a good movie, for an Australian one..." or "...I don't want an Australian for this job, I want the best!" The obverse of this is that if one of us does manage to rise to international prominence, & any whiff of criticism appears, some Aussies feel obliged to rabidly defend them, unto death. So, sorry about that. BTW, for a little more context, SkyNews is a Murdoch TV outlet here in Oz, with similar profile/politics/attitudes as FoxNews over there. Sadly (IMHO), Murdoch owns pretty much all the mainstream media down here. No doubt he owns The Daily Mail too. Keep up the good work. Andy (Melbourne - not the one in Florida)

Had he thought the person was adorable, the answer would have been: "Yes, he was adorable". When you say it like this it's implied that his opinion of the person was not positive. He did say nice was not the right word = not nice.

I had to go to the comments for this discussion of the movie, because as soon as Dave mentioned his thoughts on inside out, I really felt they were just off. Jeff, however, really gets the meaning and feeling of inside out. That memories really are multi emotional, and that’s what the movie was trying to express.

I’m so interested in how you guys think we listen to podcasts. You always joke about how no one is listening to the After Darks but in this episode you appear to genuinely suggest that not many people are listening as far as an hour into the podcast. Sometimes the review has barely started after an hour. If I listen to a podcast that is one hour and 37 minutes long then I am listening to it for one hour and 37 minutes.

To be fair, I read Jeff’s “I wouldn’t use that word” comment as the guy was not nice. If I didn’t know whether a guy was nice or not I would say “I don’t know the person” rather than saying “nice” is not the word I would use. It sort of implies that you would use another word to describe them, but you’d rather not say what that word is out loud.
