Steve Martin has always been a favorite of mine. I was a teen when I saw him do a comedy show at the Universal Amphitheater in the ‘70s. The Blues Brothers were the opening act. Years later, I worked on a short film he wrote and starred in, which was never released :( We filmed some of it at his house. He was very low-key in person. I also recommend his play, as mentioned Jeff: “Picasso At the Lapin Agil”. I’ve seen it twice, in different decades, at venues in different continents, with different casts. By the way, he went to the same University I went to (CSULB), though he was about a decade ahead of me. He also worked at Disneyland, where some of my CSULB friends worked, after Steve had moved onward and upward. He and his co-star on “Only Murders in the Building” could be called ‘Steve Martin Short’.

I just walked out the theatre seeing Godzilla X Kong. Lots of fun! It wasn't a nonsensical as 8 expected it would. There was still a lot crammed in the last 30 minutes! That being said, I really enjoyed it.

Dave was curious why EEAAO and Lady Bird weren't chosen for IMAX releases from A24, but if you check out the below link, it explains that they will be releasing A24 films in IMAX once a month for the next year and they are featuring films that previously had not been seen in IMAX (so EEAAO is out, as would be Beau Is Afraid). The Devils is a fantastic film and one of the few where I understood the X rating - not because it was too sexual or violent (though it has both) but because it feels transgressive and “wrong.” The Christ/orgy sequence made even non-religious me feel like it was blasphemous to depict. In a time when try-hard dreck like Saltburn is considered (on TikTok) to be so shocking it’s amazing to be reminded of what actual transgressive art is. High recommendation.

I really enjoyed GxK for what it was. The part when Kong used Diddy Kong as a nunchuck had me cackling with glee Took the kids and they enjoyed it a lot

I’m surprised that none of you have sought out the Korean supernatural thriller/mystery/horror film EXHUMA that’s in theaters right now. The movie is a wild ride and contains some excellent performances! It may not be around long, as it’s received practically NO marketing or advertising…but I would love to hear your thoughts on it. Check it out, if you can…thanks!

My favorite part of the movie is when Kong's arm gets so messed up that he needs a mecha arm attachment, which immediately heals up his arm so that he doesn't actually need a mecha arm. Adam Wingard truly does not GAF.
