real tbh, i like cool machines but at a certain point glazing the MIC feels kinda pepega. Idk. I think it's why I've always kinda lost interest past like, the late 50's with planes. I can cheer on a Spitfire or Mustang but creaming my jocks about spy planes and stupendous wastes of money designed to kill people kinda irks me a little. The SR71 speed check story Nova mentions is by Major Brian Shul, author of Sled Driver. The short version is that Shul's SR71 with two-man crew was flying over California when they heard a Cessna call in to central control for a speed check - 90 knots. Then a Beechcraft called in - 120 knots. THEN an F-18 Blue Hornet called in - 620 knits, trump card pulled. Long delay. Then Shul's radio man thumbs the mic and asks for a speed check - "Aspen 20, I see you at one thousand eight hundred forty-two knots across the ground." Sadly, probably not a true story, according to other SR71 pilots.

When I see someone platforming someone associated with a group I am upset with, before I complain, I actually look at the content to see whether it supports the views and actions I take issue with, or if it is counter to them. It's a lovely musical instrument and its name is hilarious to many English speakers. Most of the people I have encountered in the wild who know of it have referenced it more for the joy of saying the word flugelhorn than for any appreciation of the instrument itself. That's nothing to do with the instrument and much more to do with the fact that I'm not a musician and do not hang out with musicians for the most part. At least, I think. Wonder if the SR-71 photo was shot on some variation of Kodak Aerocolor - the US military used special-order Kodak films for aerial photography & reconnaissance (among other things) for decades. Kodak still make a version of Aerocolor but I doubt it sees any military use now.

Nova, at 18:28 I'm not sure if you're poking fun at the German language but a flugelhorn is actually a musical instrument that exists. It is commonly used by trumpet players as a doubling instrument, meaning that it's a secondary instrument used by trumpet players to achieve a specific, much mellower and warmer sound than a trumpet can produce. This is possible because the bore of the instrument is conical, meaning that the width of the tubes gradually increases throughout the length of the instrument, as opposed to the cylindrical bore of a trumpet, which is constant until the bell stem. A flugelhorn bell also widens much quicker and has a much wider throat than that of a trumpet.
