In the book "Car Wars" by Jonathan Mantle, he talks about a Brit who gets a call from MI5 after returning from a trip to Czechoslovakia in the late 80s/early 90s. MI5 wants to ask him if he saw anything they might find interesting during his trip. He tells them about a prototype he saw at the Tatra factory he toured. It was basically an MWRAP, long before the US military-industrial complex had thought of such a thing. MI5 was shocked, saying that they'd never heard of such a thing and that they had nothing comparable in the British Army. But, at least it was only a prototype, they said. To which the person who'd gone to the factory replied, "Yes. They'd only built 200 of them."

Got rid of it after 3 months. 2010 Citroen C4 Diesel: Wife is still driving it and getting 60mpg 2008 Peugeot 308 Diesel Wagon: Unbelievable thing. Probably still getting 65mpg somewhere I think that's all the French cars I've had

The VDV is great because what if you made a mechanized airbourne force, except airbourne ops have proven themselves as very stupid things to do against an even moderately motivated enemy, so now you have an extremely half baked mechanized force that you've such 2/3rds of your competent soldiers in. That said, I will never not fuck with the BMD, they're extremely cool.

Tbh, the reason cars don't appeal to me is that they break easily and require more maintenance than most other consumer mechanical machines. I need my gears to last forever or at least be able to Ship of Theseus it for the next 50 years. The anxiety of maintaining an classic car and avoiding fender benders would destroy me
